Hi everybody, I've never tried Bare Knuckle pups but I've read outstanding reviews everywhere, so I'd like to buy a nice set of humbs for my beloved Hamer Monaco Elite (24 3/4 scale, singlecut shape, set neck, classic mahogany body + maple top). At the moment I have a set of Duncans (Custom in the bridge position and Custom Custom in the neck): they're not bad at all, but I'd like the bridge pup to be less harsh and the neck one to be less bassy. I use to play a lot of music styles (blues, rock, hard rock and sometimes also metal stuff) so I need versatility...that's to say enough power in the bridge position for hard rock stuff and vintage style tone in the neck for blues and old school stuff. Which is the best way? Rebel Yell? Crawler? Emerald? I'm quiet undecided...please, help me... :?
P.S. Sorry for my poor english, I'm italian...

cold sweat or rebel yell :D
holy diver would be fine too, as it cleans up easily

I'd be looking at Crawlers in your case I think...I would say the RYs are too modern voiced for the vintage stuff, and the reverse is true of the Emeralds (although this is just based on soundclips on the forums, I've never actually used them)

I'll second the Crawlers -- they came straight to mind when you described what you're looking for! I know Tim has said he sells lots of Crawlers to working guitarists who are looking for that kind of blues-to-metal flexibility.

Thank you guys for your advices. Actually Crawlers and RYs are the main candidates...I just have to decide which set is better suited for my needs. RYs samples are terrific, unfortunately there are not many Crawlers samples. Basically I'd like the bridge pup to be powerfull, fat, clear, detailled and definitely not harsh while the neck pup shuold be very open sounding, clear, articulate and above all not too bassy. Crawlers or RYs? Very hard decision...

Mmm, that still sounds more like Crawlers than RYs to me! Yes, both are great pickups; your needs just sound like they'd be met better by the Crawlers, IMO.
If you're in doubt, send a message to Tim -- though I would not be too surprised to hear him recommend the Crawlers here as well. 8)

Crawlers are a bit more vintage sounding and midrangy. Rebels are a bit more modern and have less mids than the Crawler.
Would you say the natural tone of you guitar is bright or dark?
If it's bright and you want it a bit darker get the Crawlers. If it's dark and you want it brighter then go for the Rebels.

I'd say it's a little on the dark side...but I definetely don't want it to be brighter...

Calibrated set of CS without a doubt. I've looked carefully through the product list to see if anything else leaps out at me as I'm aware of the fact that I'm clearly biased but I can't think of a better match. The ceramic will cut through the mahogany and it isn't OTT in terms of power but as others have said; e-mail Tim and then simply buy what he says as it will be perfect.

Done! I'm eagerly waiting for his answer...

You were right, Tim recommended the Crawlers! I'll go for them...

I've heard alot of good things about Crawlers and I have no doubt Tim will be right. Let us know what they're like for you.

For that blues to metal thing I love crawlers.
Crawlers have the best verstaility of any pickup I've ever played. You get everywhere from peter green and paul kossof to james hetfield and dimebag darrell.
I mean, a few hours ago I was practicing with my metal band-mate. He was using and 81 and my crawlers were keeping up with that just fine. We were playing origin-style sweeps and grind and big isis-y chords  . A couple of weeks ago I was jamming with my post-rock band mate. He was playing a tele, and I was on crawlers, playing arpeggios and clean harmonics and harmonies, mogwai and mono-esque, and the crawlered epi LP blew the tele away.

I've just placed my order for the Crawlers... :D
