Title: Making a pickup louder with pots....
Post by: Transcend on July 06, 2007, 03:45:11 PM
is this possible?? like if i put a higher value volume pot for my neck pickup would i be able to get that bit extra volume.... because after a lot of thinking ive realised my neck pickup tone is exactly what i want from a neck pickup.,.. its just far too quiet compared to the miracle man.

try raising it then setting the MM so you have a volume match when switching between pickups - then use a bit more volume on the amp

changing the value of the volume pot will not increase the output of the guitar

Make your pickup louder, go WITHOUT pots.
If you wire your pickup direct to the output jack it will be at it's loudest and brightest. Perhaps a compromise is a mini switch that will bypass the volume and tone to give you this option.

no point rewinding it if you like the sound. also no point changing the neck pickup

... but...

Its gonna be hard to get the pickups to match if you have a MM in the bridge and something with way less power in the neck (compared to a MM neck pickup - because obviously neck pickups need less power than the bridge unit anyway)

thats why tim makes calibrated sets!!!
