Title: Mic Preamp
Post by: TomW on July 11, 2007, 05:12:47 PM
I recently bought a shure sm57, which seems really quiet when plugged straight into the computer so I'm guessing I need a mic preamp. I'm poor at the moment so can anyone recommend a decent mic preamp for under £100.
Thanks

Art Tube Pac, tube preamp with built in compressor- does the job well, and has two 12ax7's (or maybe au7's) inside :) I got mine brand new (from the PA shop on denmark st. for £50 if i remember correctly.

++1 on the Art tube pre-amp, sound far better than Mackie type pre-amps as found on some mixers IMHO-especially good for distorted/crunch guitar. The valve 'thickens' the signal very nicley....

Thanks for the help guys, that art tube pac looks good but i'm gonna have to go for one of the cheaper models I think as I just spent some more of my money on a Dream Theater ticket. I'm probably gonna get this one: http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/tube-mp/67655
