One of the most pointless guitars ever created. Even more so than the Andy Summers Telecaster yet not quite as ridiculous as Keifer $%ing Sutherland having a signature guitar.
-
^ lol he has signature guitar?
And who makes this amp by the way?
-
I like the Summers tele, but the $15 000 pricetag leaves something to be desired :? EVH amp is a Fender.

Yeah and it sounds awesome....
they had a jackson competition at download and you got to play a manky jackson witha tree trunk for a neck through a 5150III and damn it sounded so good

AWESOME! hahahahaa

I'm looking forward to trying out the 5150 iii they've got one at one of the local music stores. Friend of mine tried it and said the clean channel wasn't that great. But I find that hard to believe with fender.
-
I actually really like the Jack Bauer (:P) signature guitar, it looks cool, and dont even care if hes not a professional guitarist, because he'd still kick your arse (and Chuck Norris')

i found the clean channel quite nice
very sparkly sounding.
much better than on the peavey 5150s
-
It is ridiculous that Kiefer Sutherland has a signature guitar, but I'd far rather own it than that ripoff $25,000 EVH bag of shite.
-
ridiculous but not surprising... when people like the Good Charlotte guitarist have signatures axes then it's to be expected really.
-
hahaha i actually thought you were joking when you said he had a signature guitar!
any clips of him playing? lol
and fender? since when could they make good rock amps?!

I'll have to go check it out. Looking to pick up a new amp next year and this one is definitely on the short list. :)
-
Since the Fender Metalhead I guess. 8) It's supposed to be a good amp, if a little on the loud side at 500 watts.

They make loads of nice rock amps.
Supersonic, prosonic, evil twin, super 60, whatever Hendrix used on Voodoo Chile studio version etc
Someone on JCF already has 2 EVH heads!! 1 in black and 1 in white!!
-
Fender MH is awesome :p

The only clips I can find on youtube are these, which may not be the best for demonstrating what the amp can do

That Van Halen signature guitar... I've seen it before, but honestly. While EVH was a legendary guitarist, and I have nothing but respect for his talent, paying that much for a guitar which looks like shite is outrageous. His was special because he made it, charging people 20,000 times as much for a guitar that cost him very, very little is just stupid.
-
Whilst I respect that EVH was a legendary guitarist with great technique and all that, I find it a real struggle to listen to him play - To my mind, it just lacks musicality and sounds like noise (wow i sound like an old man :P )
-
(wow i sound like an old man :P )
Yes..... yes you do. 8)
-
the amps aren't as silly priced as I thought considering the EVH connection. the clip of him playing it at Namm sounded very tasty - I'll be checking it out for sure.
the guitar is just silly though, there is no way to justify that price - it's just greed.

yep its stupid
so now theres two battered up guitars that are overpriced in the world that i know of...
the kh2 relic on ebay made me laugh
kh2 relic...*IMMACULATE CONDITION*
haha its battered to $% as standard

These types of limited issue guitars are Fender's idea. If the artists weren't involved they'd likely build them anyway. They've done a bunch of overpriced limited issue guitars in the past. The last Jimmy Page LP was the same price, if not a $1000 more than the EVH model. The more recent ones include the Jeff Beck Esquire and Andy Summers guitar. Both around $15000 I think. Fender, & Gibson, are the ones trying to gouge people with these 'tribute' instruments. :(

they wouldn't be building them without EVH's consent - I do believe he holds some kind of copyright to the EVH and 5150 'brands'.

"they wouldn't be building them without EVH's consent - I do believe he holds some kind of copyright to the EVH and 5150 'brands"
He does own the 5150 and EVH copyright and all that. I'm just saying this isn't the first (or last) ridiculously overpriced tribute guitar put out, and that it's the guitar makers who came up with this idea. Personally my money will be going to Feline for killer axe needs next year.

Agreed, but the EVH guitar is particularly galling because the original wasn't even a basic-spec Strat or Les Paul. It was a DIY project, crudely slapped together from cheap parts and sprayed with bicycle paint. I bet if you played the original it would turn out to be a piece of shite.
The idea of Custom Shop "master builders" spending hours carefully replicating Ed's hammer-and-screwdriver routing and wonky wiring borders on the obscene.
If EVH wasn't such a money-grabbing sod he'd have refused permission for them to build these guitars. And he'd have advised fans to buy some parts from eBay and build something unique for themselves.

True. And a Relic from fender only costs about $3000 Cdn. So the price they're charging is way out of line compared to their other "aged" guitars. Here's a site that should fit your EVH lookalike needs. http://www.frankenstraat.com
-
The original reportedly cost EVH less than $100 to put together.
I reckon i could do one for not much more - but i would never be able to sell it because the paint job is copyrighted as well and i would get sued for doing it if it wasnt for personal use.
I quite like some of fender relics, and there is a real art to getting them to look right that justifies some of the cost - but this is a step too far IMHO
Athough saying that, i wasnt overly impressed with the rory gallager relic. They got it so close but the bare wood never actually looked worn and old like the original always has

Here are clips of a dude on HC
Sounds great to me, clearer and more open than the old peaveys

now, I love Eddie and the other Van Halen lads, but i can't believe the price of that thing... man I threw together my own frankenstrat from a body I theeeved from a gig where the guitarist smashed his guitar and a neck i got from a guy in a shop for nothing.... that guitar cost me £5.50 - the price of the $%ing strings!!! I got the p'up's from a body i was working on and the trem from a BC Rich warlock i got from a pawn shop in Portabello.

Jack Bauer, has a signature guitar because he plays guitar, so what if it's not professionally? he owns a studio n has produced pros.

That's the point - "so what"
He owns a studio - "so what"
He has produced pros - "so what"

I wonder how Kiefer Sutherland feels about being called Jack Bauer in his musical capacity?
I think he's in danger of getting too associated with one character. The Ken Barlow of "real-time" terrorist conspiracy thrillers.

Here (http://www.jackbauerforpresident2008.com/jokes.html) is a list of reasons why Jack Bauer has a signature guitar.
