well, I just Baught a Koch Loadbox to mach my Engl savage 60 head for silent recordings (girlfriend has issues with skull-crushing volume. go figure.) anyway, I've noticed that when cranked and not plugged into the cabinet I can hear the guitar through the tubes themselves.
so just to reassure me:
Is this normal?
Thankes

I just tried the same thing with my hotplate set to load and sure enough you're right I can hear some sound coming out of the tubes themselves!! :o
Never noticed it before but yeah I think it's normal, unless mine is screwed as well

It's the output transformer in your amp that emits this sound. I 'think' it's the laminations vibrating.

ah ok... I just stuck my head next to the front grill so didn't check where it was coming from. Didn't wanna burn my ears on them tubes either!
