I was cruising around t'internet earlier today and came across this little beauty. It's a Japanese Tokai LS150 limited edition relic run, done by the Tokai factory. I've got it from Coda Music who were selling them new last year for £1000. They have a new one still in stock for £750 with a chevron flame but this straight flamed example looks better to me. It's used and cost me just over £500 including a case and delivery. A bargain, surely?
I've got a Zebra mule waiting to slot into the bridge position for that Jimmy Page look too :D
I need help. I can't resist a guitar deal.

Wow. Sick axe!!!
-
Cheers Ben :)
I couldn't resist at that price, and it's a Japanese Love Rock so it should be good. I don't usually buy without trying first, but I figured if I don't like it I can eBay it for little if no loss.
This is the "new" one they still have in stock for £750. There's something about the angled flame stripes that don't look as pleasing to my eyes as the one I've bouhgt:

SWEET. I think we'd all have the addiction if we had the cash to fund it :P
-
Cash? What's that? Mr VISA helped out here...
-
:D I`ve not heard of anyone having a bad Tokia espeicially a MIJ model. Good bit of business there buddy !
:D 8)
-
That is SWEET
-
I love my MIJ Tokai LP. I got it from my local music shop who were selling it new and at cost! I got it for £580. It's a love rock model but not a relic. I couldn't afford it either but at that price I figured I was crazy not to, Mr VISA helped me out too :)
I hope you like yours Twinfan.
-
That looks amazing great deal too. I wanna get a MIJ Tokai.
-
sweet geet you got there. You should get it wired with the jimmy page wiring diagram that is an exact copy of what he had in his LP's. A tribute to the man somewhat.

What were you saying when I bought that Strat a couple of weeks ago?
Pot.
Kettle.
I think we should both take ourselves off to Gasoholics Anonymous.
-
Nice guitar - still not sure a LP should be relic'ed though. I like my LP's perfect

I've been waiting for your comments Phil - you didn't disappoint!
I really should stop looking, then I won't find these things in the first place. I really must sell the three Ibanez RGs I've been promising to...
WezV - I know what you're saying about a "perfect" Les Paul, but they never look vintage enough for me. The relicing just adds a bit of "vintage vibe" to my eyes.
-
How do you get them all past your partner?.....and how big a house do you have to have that many guitars, bet you need more space for your guitars then your partner has clothes/shoe space *L*(take it downsizing didn't happen *L*)
-
My wife is very understanding. I was a GAS-aholic when we met so she accepts it's part of who I am. I've offered to buy some home improvements as a sweetener ;)
Downsizing? Yeah, that went out of the window mate...
-
ahh the home improvements sweetner....smooth *L*
-
I bought a Les Paul, I have to buy the wife a dog.
Simple compromise I believe..
-
Nice acquisition.
GAS struck me again too on evilbay last week, bought a H&K 4x12 Triamp cab (the custom one with 4x Greenbacks) for 400 EUR.
New it's 1,100
Looks a bit shitety, but sounds as good as any Bogner I've tried!
Anyone wanna buy a Laney TT412 with Vintage30s?
-
haha, very nice! at least I'm not the only one with incurable GAS.
I dunno about the cheron flames... both are pretty nice. I guess going for the cheaper one is the wise move, especially since you like the straight flame.
EDIT: that's a very good deal on that cab. i already have a laney tt cab

If I had a lousy looking wall, I'd rather spend a couple of grand on guitars to hang on that wall than spend a twenny for some paint. The only problem is I don't have a couple of grand but I do have a twenny.
-
That's a beauty bro!
-
Well the Tokai should arrive today - I'm waiting for the missu to call me when it turns up.
I've done some digging and it turns out that the UK distributor gets these guitars relic'd. They start off as a LS85F Japanese Love Rock and they then spend 2 months (!!!) getting the relic treatment here in the UK. Around 12 are produced a year, 6 of which went to Coda in 2006. Each one is had relic'd and is therefore unique. They're fitted with Wilkinson-Gotoh PAF pickups, although the bridge on mine will be swapped for a Zebra Mule I have lying around.
Interesting stuff eh?
I'd love to know who the relic'er is.....
-
twin...that is beautiful. I love my Tokai more than anything else(at the moment  ). A mule is the only one to go in there mate

I gotta get me one of those at some point

I've read that the Wilkinson pickups are pretty good, especially the neck. I think the Mule / Wilkinson combination might work pretty well.
The guitar is at home - only 2 hours to go until I'll be checking it out...
-
When you say "Relic'd" do you mean them getting beaten up with a hammer and some acid?
-
That'll be it...
-
i prefer the 'drag behing your car' or 'tumble dry' with nuts and bolts approach to relicing
Please dont try these at home!!!!
-
One trick I've read for getting a nitro finish to crack and check is to take it outside on a nice hot day and after a couple hours put it in the freezer. Haven't tried it myself. 8)
-
^ i don't think that'd work in britain. we rarely ever get a hot day...
-
wouldn't that also maybe crack the wood?
-
It works very well if you do it hile the lacquer is still soft - or doing it in reverse. Freeze the guitars for 30 mins before spraying with nitro lacquer and then leaving in a conservatory. Only problem is the crazing is quite checkered, like you would expecct to see around the edge of an old guitar. It doesnt doo the long cracks you normally see on the front of old guitars very well

Here's a nice link for relicing guitars.
