Hey.
I've been thinking of getting an EQ pedal so that I can help my amps come out in the mix more as well as give single coils more girth to them and just boost solos.
I've looked at the MXR 6 Band EQ and the Boss GE-7. Which is the better of the two? Which is quieter? which one gives a better range of available tones?

I use a MXR 10 band eq pedal and it is great, really quite and provides a huge range of tones. I have also tried the Boss GE-7 and didn't like it as much as the mxr as it was abit noisy and I just didn't like the sound of it as much. So I would reccommend the mxr.

EQ pedals are very useful, and i cant do with out mine.
i've tried a few now, including the ones you mention.
the mxr 6 band is very slightly more noisy than the standard boss, however it is much nicer to use (leds and long faders) and sounds more musical. based on standard pedals i would take the mxr 6 band.
then i modified my boss pedal. after than the boss was /alot/ more quiet, and slightly more transparent (it was rather transparent to start with though) and now i use my boss exclusively.
i'll sell/swap you my mxr if you like (still got that painkiller?)? or to be honest, if i was to be buying an eq pedal now, i'd get this one:

never tried it, but i'm pretty sure its going to be good.
i dont find i need loads of bands... the 6 on the MXR was more than enough, i don't think i'd like less than 5 though.

the mxr 10 band m-108 is awesome

The Painkiller is now in my PRS. But I do have an open Miracle Man laying about now with no guitar to go in if you're interested.
