has anyone seen this? i think one would be convenient, but i just can't remember where it was, what it was called etc
i think technically its a valve overdrive pedal, but you can use it as an amp head too.
help would be appreciated
or if there are any negative comments about them etc

The only thing i can think of is the Z.Vex Nano Head... tiny thing, dont know about it being used as a valve overdrive but it is a tiny, tiny amp head.

There are a few that qualify - the Hughes and kettner cream machine and tubeman, Engl did the Tube Toner..
I raather like the AMT pedals that can be used direct or as an FX pedal
this is their new one for Matthias Eklundh

The Zvex Nano cannot be used as an overdrive or pre-amp in front of another amp as it only offers speaker level output. Plug that into another amp's input or effects return and you will blow something up. Either the Nano's output transformer or the other amp's input stage depending on what gives up first.
The only amp I can think of that doubles as an effect is the Vox BM Special that has a dedicated output from the treble booster section of its circuit so you can use it as the biggest non-footswitchable Dallas Rangemaster clone on the planet ;)
Everything else I can think of is a pre-amp, such as the H&K Tubeman, Mesa V-Twin, etc.

I think you might mean that piece of cr@p that Marshall made. Can't remember the name though, I think Danelectro also made something similar. HTH

i have a hughes and kettner cream machine. its definately good and does what you say. it has a hard rock/heavy metal bias, and lots of valve overdrive on tap. these days i find it a little dark sounding, and i'm thinking of selling it in fact.

Ah yes. The Marshall MS-2. I've had oneof those for years but never have tried it as an overdrive pedal. Fun for walking around the house with it fixed to your guitar strap though. :)
