Riiight, change of plan again. I've foudn a guitar I'm hoping to get, its a Charvel HSS, and as I don't own a guitar with singlecoils, I'm quite lost for where to go, and the HSS sets the BKP do look pretty hot for the money!
Right, heres what I need:
- 80's Metal/ Hair Metal sounds, I play alot of Maiden, Metallica, Van Halen, Extreme, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Ozzy Osbourne, Vai, you know, the over the top big haired 80's metal!
- I'd like to be albe to easily coax out some great pinches from the humbucker, so obviously will need quite a hot PU.
-It'll be going through a Marshall DSL50, MXR Distortion+ (always on), Arion Chorus (Usually on), Crybaby, Phase 90, Boss DD3.
- It must clean up nicely too, I need some good clean sounds too!
- Must be pretty versatile, but mainly for the kind of sound I previously mentioned.
- I really want the neck SC to give me that Dave Murray neck sound, the lovely bubbly, smooth sound, and as I use alot of gain, I don't want it to sound muddy, OR sharp; like alot of SC's do. Basically I'd like it to be more on the humbucker sounding side
Well, thats it I guess, please help, as it'll be my first time buying new pups, and I don't know where to look in the bkp department!

Err, Dave Murray usually uses his neck humbucker for solos...
For the bridge, a Holy Diver sounds right up your street.
-
ditto to twinfan on the murray, but paired with the diver I would say Irish tours or trilogy for a little hotter, but my irish tours could hang with my Nailbomb and sound great clean
-
SORRY! lol I did mean neck
So ignore that and I'll change it
-
So a Holy Diver with either Irish Tours or Trilogy :?:
Can the Holy Diver get out pinches quite easily? And is it pretty hot?
Also, do the SC's above sound mre like humbuckers, or will I need to get an EQ pedal :?:
-
Anyone? ^
ALSO I'm getting really pissed off, cus for some reason on this forum, I have to hit the Submit button loads of times before it does anything, everytime I hit it, it just keeps going back to the reply I'm posting
So far, I've hit it 23 times for this single post!

I have the Holy Diver with a pair of Trilogy Suites. I think this would be perfect for you. With the Trilogies you can get a lot of drive from the neck pickup.

Do they balance well?
'Cus Tim doesn't seel them as one of the HSS options?
Also, do they sound nice clean?
and thanks btw :)

What wood is your guitar made from?
Initially I would say that the HD and Trilogy Suites are an excellent combination for what you're after.

They balance really well, I have them wired with the superswitch to give me one coil of the HB combined with the Tilogy in positions 2 and 4. The guitar it is on is a superstrat with a swap ash body with flamed redwood veneer, maple neck with ebony fingerboard (scalloped from the 12th fret, a really beautiful job done by Feline).

sounds lovely :) Pics?
And I think its got a switch that activates the HB in any position, so it could sound pretty cool.... I wonder if Tim would sell 2 Trilogys and a Holy Diver

I wrote a big long post yesterday about why you should get slowhands as your single coils to go with the HD, but then my PC froze and I couldn't be bothered to type it all again.
The basic idea is that they're darker than your standard single coils, and therefore sound smooth and clear at any gain level, while not having that harsh brightness you can get with some strat pickups.
I have them in my strat (see avatar) wired in series, so that you get a good neck humbucker-ish sound which matches very well with the HD.

Ohh, cheers!
So now I only have three options
Right, its either Slowhands, Trilogy Suite, or Irish Tours.... maybe I should email Tim?
-
I'm looking more towards the Irish Tours or the Trilogy Suite now... more than likely Irish Tours actually.... I don't know :(
Can the Holy Diver deliver some high output, for pinched harmonics and things?
-
I'd be interested to hear what Tim says. I'm sure the HD is the way to go and I was fairly certain about the Trilogy suites but I confess that those Slowhands sound like a very interesting option. They could be perfect.

I really need to get some sort of recording gear, so I can get some clips up - but atm it's not an option, so you'll have to just imagine it :P

I'll try 8)
I think I'll email Tim... but I'll wait, the Charvel may have quite a cool sound, so I'll hold on till I get it... but more than likely BKP's will crop into it
