Anyone tried them? What they like?
-
My JCM800 has goldbacks in it, do you mean them?
-
I've heard they're the closest thing to the Blues but with a bit more bark, which isn't really a bad thing I'd be very tempted to try a Celestion gold in my Cornford Hurricane think that would be a stella combination but we'll leave that for now im a bit broke ;)

Are you talking about the 50w Alnico Gold Celestions? - the reviews I've heard say they're very, very close to the 15w versions. Alnico Blues are awesome speakers, I'll have to get my '64 Blues reconed sometime - I was using them in an AC30 with a treble booster and they finally went south (ouch!!!)

celestion golds... hmmm for some reasaon going for 280$ now in north america, and 380 euro in europe. Wierd.
2 months ago they were going for 450$. I dont think its worth it personally, but hey, some people want their vintage tone louder.
-
Its just that they are going for £100 at Watford Valves and I thought it might make my Tweed Fender Blues Junior more like the AC15 it wants to be :)
-
It'll sound great in that amp, but I'd be tempted to go for an alnico Jenson (or Weber) for more of the vintage Fender vibe. The Celestion will certainly give it more of a 'Brit' flavour though.
For only £50 you could do worse than put a G12H-30 in there - food for thought.

double post (whoops)

They are the best!!!
been using them for a few months now in my Cornford MK50 they are the best sounding speakers, very dynamic, huge presence and very organic!!!
My setup is just pure tone now what with my mullard and RCA loaded MK50 and alnico golds.
im running a PRS Custom22 - MK50 - THD Hotplate - Celestion golds
get them cranked up and they really start to talk.
worth every penny.
i would give a full review but im tired, maybe in the next few days i will.
Hope this sways some wallets :D

What I really want to know is - do the Alnico Golds have the darkness of Celestions like the G12H or are they brighter like the Alnico Blues. If they are dark, i'll stick to the stock Jensen C12N.
-
not dark at all sound just like the blues but more edge to them!!! absolute tonal bliss BUY THEM NOW
check out on watford valve they have them cheap atm.

I bet a 4x12 loaded with them would be tasty. Hmm, now can I really justify £400 on speakers ???

You know you want to...
