is there a way i can align my pickups to be more parallel to the strings on a guitar with no pickup rings? my V doesn't have pickup rings, and so the pickup sits parallel with the pickguard, rather than the strings. i'm assuming its supposed to. my strings are nearly touching the neck end of my bridge pickup, but are a good 6 or so mm away from the bridge end. maybe i need to lower my bridge?

It depends on the action of the guitar, although it sounds like that's well off?
A pic might help here :)

Just sounds typical of V's to be honest. They're surposed to be like that.

aren't V's meant to have floating pickups or something like that?

i gess they are scratchplate mounted.
i dont worry about this too much but it does sound quite bad on your guitar.
I wonder if it would be possible to make a little block of wood that went between the pickguard and metal tabs that had the appropriate angles cut into it so the pickup had no choice but to sit at the correct angle - might take a bitof maths but should be possible!

thats not a bad idea. it seems as simple as positioning the pickup as i'd want it, and then measuring the space between the pickguard and the metal tabs. i don't know how i'd get it to stay though. really the only reason i'm asking is that wouldn't this be affecting my sound a bit? i've heard its recommending that for higher output pickups they be around 2 mm's or so away from the strings, but i can't get that close without the other end touching. would i get a much better sound out of it if i got it parallel, or am i just being too picky?
