Title: confused about ibanez pickup wiring..
Post by: _tom_ on August 08, 2007, 06:22:36 PM
I've been trying to sort out my mates new Ibanez RG today. He got it off ebay with a duncan in the bridge and stock ibanez pickup, but wanted to put in his Dimarzios instead. Got the bridge one in allright as it was easy to change around the colour code, but we're stuck on the neck pickup. The original Ibanez neck pickup only had 3 wires - bare, red and white (I think). How would I wire in the neck Dimarzio so it works?

Cheers

ps - whats the problem with setting up floating trems?! It was my first time re-stringing one and it was piss easy, no problems once the strings were all stretched! Also, the neck on this one is really nice, its not a Wizard, GRG2 whatever that means! Much better than most Ibanez I've played, I sort of want one now :P

solder the black and white wires on the dimarzio together - they are the joing between the two coils. One of the wires on the ibanez pikcup will do the same thing.  If you want coil splits then use that wire -if not tape it off.

The red wire is hot and green is earth on dimarzios

I think it does have some kind of coil tap/split on it. How I have it wired up now, all positions except 5 (neck by itself) work, so I guess I need to change something around. I'll try to get it off him tomorrow to have another go at wiring up the neck pickup.

edit - I just looked on the dimarzio site, found a suitable diagram now I think :D I dont know why but I've always had my dimarzio chopper with green going to the switch, and its always sounded fine to me, and his bridge pickup is wired up so the green goes to the switch and sounds fine as well..
