Title: whats your favourinte tuning??metal content... lml
Post by: futuregun on August 10, 2007, 11:06:31 AM
ive been arsing about with different tunings for a while now.from b c and d standard  along with open tunings...open c being my favorite of th open ones but awkward to get to grips with at th start an although i try to play broootull metal i think d standard is my fav...closely followed by C. as i think b lacks that crisp chug.though could just be my pickups.dimarzio x2n.
im likely gonna get a warpig th night but worried that theyll lose calrity in B-tuning.
anyone got pigs in Bstandard????? do they still do pinch harm easy??

This song is in AADGBE. It is a pretty cool tuning.

Left guitars are Painkillers Right guitars are Ceramic Warpigs. Song is still in the works, this is just a rough mix of it.

I've also done a song in G flat. That is where clarity is really hard to keep.

www.myspace.com/parkadez the last song on the list "That's the last time I go..."

I think pickups make a huge difference, as do the amp, and cab, and playing volumes.

I use D standard and drop C exclusively for my band material as my singer cant sing in standard :P but i prefer how it sounds just that step lower anywya.

I like C standard myself, although sometimes I wonder if I should go to D

C is good for thinking my way around the guitar though cos I used play piano and so I think in C

"Rawhide in A. Good country key"

I don't think there is such a thing as 'the best tuning'. It depends on the song, the player, the guitar, the pickup etc. even the singer.

I messed around with all sorts of tunings, but in recent years have settled on Eb for most of my guitars.

I have one guitar tuned to Eb/dropC#, one to C/dropBb & one to E (for playing along with instructional DVDs)

Vito Bratta used that tuning on a couple of songs off of Pride, namely Little Fighter.

I like being tuned to B.  My guitars have been tuned to be for the past 12 years or so now.

I've got a Cold Sweet in my main guitar.  It seems to handle being in B very well.

I don't see downtuning as anything metal. It just makes the open key lower basically and gives you more notes. More notes isn't metal to me. I'm bad eough with E standard already and it's metal enough for me I guess.

I'm starting to use Open-C for a heavier sound.

Low C all the way up to your normal top E? it's all about the range...

And open tunings rock with a slide ;)

Never heard of Devin Townsend, i'll add him to my 'seek' list.

I find DADGAD pretty damn awesome.

I had an affair with New Standard Tuning for a long time, and it is very very cool.

I've got different guitars tuned to E, D and C standard (six string guitars), and my 7 goes between B and A... until i get another so i can have one in each :) I rarely use drop tunings- only when i'm playing a song by a band that uses it.

My Nailbombed Warlock is tuned to drop C# at the moment. I wrote all my songs in drop D, which was fine, until I realised I didn't take endurance into account. We did a few practices of all my D songs and I found that I was struggling to hit the high notes after a while, so now all my songs have been transposed to drop C#. It's only half a step down for the whole tuning but it takes the edge off and I can sing all the high's really comfortably now. Plus it sounds AWESOME! Hehe.

standard E, Open C and standard E with an extra low B (7 string).

Lets see now...

I have 3 guitars in drop B. This is my main tuning. C-Pig, Pig and Monster Miracle Man are in the bridges of these guitars (and cold sweat, 2xIT, 2xUT). They. Fucking. Slay.

The other guitarist in my band likes Drop C, so we play in both and I have 2 guitars in it now (with painkillers and crawlers).

Then theres standard E, drop A, drop A on a seven string, my acoustics in standard D for some reason, and my bass in in drop B.
