This will just be a brief posting. (I may post more later)
My colleague Chris who is also one of my best friends chose to take his own life yesterday.
It hasn't even started to sink in, yet I feel so much loss.
I miss his kindness and his caring soul.
I worked with him every day and he made my life a happier place and was an asset to my business as well.
Many of you who have visited my workshop will have met him and maybe encountered his dry sense of humour.
We had worked together 8 hours every day for 4 years, and had a lot of time for each other.
He was good at what he did and had become increasingly invaluable to me in the workshop.
It was a shock to me even though I was aware he had been under a lot of stress lately. (not workshop related stress - personal stuff)
I understood his pain and the personal tragedy he has been going through of late - having your parents die never comes easily, and he also had other trial, tribulations and burdens on top of that which proved to be too much for him to face.
Chris - my life will be all the poorer for not having you in it anymore
I will miss you every day.....
I just hope that there is a beer festival on the other side for you

Damn, sorry to hear this, Jon :( May strength be with you and Chris' closest.
-
May I also add my deepest condolences.
In my time around Chris, at the workshop or at the guitar shows I never encountered anything but a genuine, good humoured fellow with a no-nonsense attitude and welcoming personality.
He will be missed.

This surely is very very painful Jonathan, I wish you all the strength needed to cope with this tragedy.
Make sure you keep his good life - and not his death - in your memory and most importantly, don't lose your optimistic and positive nature over this.
-
Very sorry to hear that......
-
My condolences to his family, and friends.
-
Jon, so sorry to hear that
On my regular visits to Feline (I must've put nearly half my guitars through there in recent months), I found Chris to be a friendly decent bloke. It's a real shock to hear that he's gone. My condolences to you & his family.
-
That's terrible. I only met Chris once, very briefly, but that still makes this news seem quite close to home.
Condolences to you and everyone.
-
Sorry to hear this very sad news about Chris, Jonathon. I met Chris a few times and found him to be a really nice bloke and damn good at his job too. I've lost a few friends this way too and I know how you must be feeling right now mate.
-
This is indeed very sad news.
You have my deepest sympathies, Jonathan.
-
I'm really sorry to hear this Jon. I lost a colleague earlier this year and it is hard when you are used to seeing someone every day. My sympathy goes out to you and all at Feline.
-
So very sorry to hear of your loss
He must have been very talented to work at feline guitars
-
That's terrible, so sorry to hear it. In my two times at your workshop I found Chris to be the antithesis of so many in the guitar world: helpful, positive, no sarcastic ego - the sought of person you would entrust with anything - in a word irreplaceable.
-
Chris, that posted the nailbomb clips here?
-
So sorry to hear about your loss, our sincere condolences to you and his family.
-
Wow.... I'm really sorry to hear that... My deepest sympathies to you and his family and friends...
-
Thankyou for all your kind words guys.
It is a difficult time for me - sometimes you dont realise how much or how strongly you feel about something till it's gone.
Chris was a really good mate and a joy to work with
He was punctual and reliable and always in a good mood, which just made things so easy at work.
He was like a brother to me and helped me through a few ups and downs in my own life ( I can be a little hot-headed at times when under pressure)
Workwise he was methodical and steady rather than speedy but I could rely upon him and over the years i honed how he did things to match my own personal approach, which was really great as I found faith that his workmanship would be the same as mine.
We had recently taken on a new trainee (Ben) as well to help with the growing workload and the three of us all got along great and we were both able to contribute to helping Ben (who is also studying Guitar Making at Merton College) to find his feet.
Looks like I will have to focus on helping Ben try to fill those big shoes that Chris has left
Chris will be missed greatly and will be fondly remembered by us both.
I hope those of you who had met him will also remember him fondly.
-
I'm deeply sorry to hear about your loss. He sounded like a fine man, an asset to the world that will be missed.
I don't know what else to say... shocking news...
-
I'm also sorry to hear this even though I have never met him
I hope he is somewhere happier now.
-
It's awful when this kind of thing happens, but as hunter said, try to keep his life in mind rather than his death.
My condolences.
-
I can only echo what everyone else has said. My deepest sympathies to you and Chris' family.
-
Deepest Sympathies.

My deepest sympathies Feline. I have a friend who has tried to commit suicide multiple times and is not hospitalized.
This sort of this should just never happen.
-
Was this the guy who was working on that old Vox's neck whilst myself and the boy visited? Either way you, his other friends and family have are in my thoughts. I've been in a very similar situation recently and it's a difficult one to deal with, it may sound corny but it's true; time is the only healer. Allow yourself to grieve and don't attempt to fight against your feelings, it's the only productive way.
