Just thought I'd throw this together as I've got nothing better to do :D 1st is Heartbreaker, then a riff/jam thing that they do on the Song Remains the Same live dvd before Black Dog, then Stairway solo.. my playing/timing is a bit sloppy as I couldnt hear the backing track very well, but I think I've found a pretty good hard rock tone here. Using my Rat as a light boost to tighten and liven up the Laney a bit as it can sound a bit bland on lower gain without it..

Love the tone!
I wouldn't worry about the sloppiness. You would have to really try to match Pagey's sploppiness!!

I just realised, your clips sound a heck of a lot better than they used to!
You're making me consider a GH50L... if thats what you're still using.

Thanks, I think I've finally got the mic positioning sussed :D Yep it is my trusty GH50L, such a good amp.

I agree, these clips sound a lot better (not that the previous ones wern't great as well)! Can you reveal your mic positioning secrets?

I'm considering a GH50L instead of modding my 79 Marshall- GAS is getting to me, I just know I'll end up getting one.......anyways at £399 for the head its not too much of an expense. Iam however running out of excuses (and hiding places) for the missus as to why I really need another amp.

Great tone and playing there fella - very impressed with the mic'd up sound! I've just ordered new tubes for my AOR30 as its been out of commision for a few years, you've reminded me what great amps Laney make! :)

Love it !
Say Tom is your GH50 stock 5881 tubes or did you swap them with EL34s?

I dont really have any good advice to offer about this other than it just takes a lot of experimentation to find where the good spots on the speaker is. I prefer off axis to on axis but not too far away from the centre otherwise it goes too scooped.
Hunter, my GH came stock with EL34s :D

the technical term is 'find the sweetspot' lol you should try pointing the SM57 45 degrees into just off the centre by about 1 cm, thats where the sweet spot is on my amp ; ) ooh, nice tone you got too! a shame about the wrong note in 'Bring it On Home' it's mixolydian harmony not minor, otherwise the rest is correct.

Eh? I dont have a clue what this means
