& I love it. It's my father in laws & it plays beautifully, but the only thing is the sound of the pick-ups. Now I know that this is BKP website and all & I'd love to put a set in so there's no issue there, but it's got this push button on it to give upto 7 different variations. Is it a right bitch to change? I don't want to get it & then realise thatI've buggered up the pickups

nah sure there will be a diagram for that
http://www.fender.com/support/diagrams/pdf_temp1/stratocaster/0133000_02A/SD0133000_02APg4.pdf
this is the switching diagram as is and here's how it's wired
http://www.fender.com/support/diagrams/pdf_temp1/stratocaster/0133000_02A/SD0133000_02APg2.pdf
but if didn't want doesn't look too hard to wire normal

That does look nice-yep a set of BKPs would be good-so what is it going to be.

I'm putting a set of Irish tours in my sunburst & an emerald with 2 mothers milk in my bitsa strat, but I'd love to go for something Gilmour-ian in this...guess I don't know

If you do decide to bite the bullet and change the pups, then it may be worth just swapping the whole scratchplate over. Minimal wiring then.
I'm not generally that much of a start fan, but that's loooovly.

good idea tone, thanks...oh & SG thanks for that! Where'd you get it? Is it on the Fender webpage?
-
The switch may just be adding one of the pickups in on switch positions that it normally wouldnt be so you get 2 more sounds (neck and bridge and all 3 on at once )
No problem swapping for BKPs - just swap the existing pickup wires with the BKP ones
-
yup is on fenders site

I would second that. It makes sense if you can as Tim supplies them with CTS pots. You can change the colour of the pick guard and with minimum fuss you can make the guitar original again.
This is a real plus if you intend to move the instrument on one day.
Given the switching combo's of the extra switch installed This would be the way I would go.... I have the American deluxe with the S1 switch in the volume pot and I really couldnt fathom how I was going to rewire all this stuff and still maintain originality.
cop this for a wiring mess... This is standard!!
