The wife is away for a couple of weeks so I am going through the music room and getting some stuff out for storage (normally I can't get in there). In doing this I thought that I could put up some pictures of the collection as people keep asking me about my guitars. Since I wanted to post a good description of the relative sounds of the BK Tele bridge pickups, I thought that the Tele's might be a good starting place.
Going from left to right front to back:
Fender Japan 62 Tele Custom reissue - Candy Apple Red - the eagle eyed will notice the left handed bridge, used to have a 63 Tele and Danelectro Lipstick Tube on it, probably will go back to that as I love the Dano neck tone.
1958 Tele - blonde BK Black Guard flatpole set. Great sounding pickups - gets all the classic tele sounds and more. The neck is almost Strat like in tone, more push than the usual tele pickup.
1959 Esquire - sunburstBK Brown Sugar bridge and Harmony Chris Issak neck (repaired by Tim). The Chris Issak is a Gibson mini-HB (Complete with PAF sticker). The bridge gets all the Stones tones, and the neck works great with it.
Warmoth Tele build Swamp ash body in Butterscotch Blonde, Goncalo Alves/Kingwood neck. Piledriver neck, Slowhand Bridge. I put the 'dark circuit' wiring in this, bridge/neck/neck with filter. Gets great Led Zep tones, and the Slowhand gives a fatter neck sound.
1962 Tele - Dakota Red refin This is actually a 57 swamp ash body with a 62 neck. It sounds great but not as powerful as the BK's but this has a really nice set of pickups (original 62's), and the neck gets a very sweet usable tone.
Most of them have the Stewart MacDonald compensated Brass Saddles fitted and a couple have the 4-way switch.
For the interior designers, it a a repro Fainting Couch from the 60's and the carpet is a real Kashmir silk carpet.

only 5 phil! do you not like tele's or are there some more hiding in the music room?

The 1962 Tele - Dakota Red refin is soooo nice!
-
Lovely selection Phil - Can we get a closer look at the headstock on the warmoth build?
-
Goncalo Alves/Kingwood neck.
yeah lets get a closer look at that if possible. i take it it is the goncalo for the neck wood with kingwood fretboard
my favorite has to be the sunburst!!

sweet!

I had two others through the years (a thinline custom and a 50's with a neck HB), but sold them. I have this love hate relationship with Teles. I like them for some things but could never play one all night.
I'll get some close ups for you tomorrow.
-
cheers phil - i am a bit of a tele fan but really it has to be a 72 custom for me!! or a thinline, well maybe an esquire......damn, i cant choose

These are some pictures of the Goncalo Alves/Kingwood neck. If you are into wood, it is a great looking neck. I haven't done anything with the back of it, but I am thinking of giving it a light coating of tung oil (not that it needs anything according to Warmoth, but just to give it a little more finished feel).

Does that say 'Fecker' on the headstock?
-
Yes, all my Warmoth custom builds do. This also says 'Testicaster' but it's really hard to read against the darker grain. The decals are made in England by Glen Ellard, if you are interested let me know and I will give you his contact details.

PhilKing, I wanna be in your will.

Have you tried tru-oil(gunstock oil) for necks phil. I havnt got around to getting any yet but its reported to be a good compromise between oil and lacquer. you can even get it as shiny as lacquer if you do enough coats but i dont really see the point in that.
noticed the profile gauge and digital vernier - are you taking records of all these things!! I suddenly have an idea for a book filled with various neck shape profiles - i know builders that would kill for something like that
-
Well spotted Wez, I'm getting the measurements for some necks for Bainzy and ToneMonkey. If you want any at the same time let me know. I figure that I will scan the pages in and hope that it doesn't distort the shape. An intersting thing that I an finding with the older necks is that they all seen to be asymetrical, which I think must be down to the wear over the years (or my lack of skill with the profile guage!).

Super cr@p.

i would be happy to get a copy of any you do if thats all right - its always good to have this stuff for reference.
getting these measurements transfered into new necks is always fun!!
