I sold my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, i have a 540 dollar budget for a new amp, and I play metal. Yesterday I went to a Sam Ash (a USA guitar store chain) and played a Peavey XXX 40 watt combo, and fell in love with it. Its a discontinued model, because it has something like 6 effects built into it: tremolo, chorus, flanger, phaser, rotary, delay/echo/slap back, and something else i forgot, my mind blanked out.
Now this amp was 799, really loved the ultra channel. This amp is probably cr@p compared to all your ENGLs, Mesas, Splawns, etc everyone seems to have on these forums heh, but I've only been playing for 4 years and its a nice little amp. The problem is that I don't have 799 right now, but, (heres the real question)

same amp on (egh) Ebay, 499, shipping 40 bucks, with the foot switch and el34s in it. much better deal, but
I have never ordered an amp off of Ebay, I have ordered a guitar and it was a horrible experience. Should I go for it? It seems like a dumb idea but I am ampless right now, and im pretty desperate for this XXX. I cant really think of much that could be majorly wrong with this amp when it gets here. Any input/advice/whatever would be much appreciated.

well the guys got 100% on his feedback which is always nice - if you are in doubt you could always try to talk the guys at the guitarshop down now you have seen one cheaper elsewhere

I say go for it as its a great little amp, however he has switched the valves/tubes for el84's so it will sound a little different to the one that you tried in the shop. That being said he's including the original 6l6 valves in the auction so you can always swap them back round if you don't like the tone with the el84's.
Generally speaking el84's tend to give you a more marshall type tone, whereas 6l6's give you a more mesa like tone (obviously it depends on the amp) Just in case you didn't know.

I'll tell you once my amp arrives...

Changed my mind I think I'm gonna save up and try to find a 212 120 watt combo (they used to make one, but sadly no longer)
