chose your no. 1
surely this selection is subjective, might have forgotten important ones
-
All great guitars, Gilmour's Strat is a particular favourite, but it has to be Randy's LP Custom. I occasionally flirt with the idea of grabbing an Edwards LPC in antique white just so I can put a snakeskin strap on it and play "Mr Crowley".
-
The Red Special
-
I went for Pearly Gates
Although I would have liked to have went for Lucelle there have been so many replacements it wouldn't have been fair.
-
EVH fo' sho
-
You left out Lynch!
-
The Red Special
100% Agree - He even worked the wood and made the trem - Can it get better than that? - UNIQUE...
-
SRV's strat for me. I love the tone of it on the Live in Montreux dvd.
-
Seeing as everyone is posting some which are missing...
Jake's Charvelised Fender ;)
Hendrix strat?
-
I had hard time choosing between SRV's 'Number One' and David Gilmour's Black strato
but I went for SRV in the end 8)
-
You left out Lynch!
I didn't know Kenny Lynch played guitar
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenny_Lynch

You left out Lynch!
Yeah man, number of Poll options is restricted by the admin, 2nd league players had to stay out...
haha just kiddin TO, Lynch rules for sure, sorry for not having him.
-
Hendrix strat?
Yeah I thought about this a lot, problem though that this would be any factory new 70s strat, and they were very short lived ... I had his Psychedelic V but had to remove it due to restricted poll options.
I also had _tom_s Epiphone Les Paul in the list before I had to cut down the options
-
I have gone for Blackie but among guitars players there will be the usual diverse or polarised opinions. I would (obviously) go for Lennon's Casino or Harrison's "Rocky" and the Strat that Jimi Flamed but Lucille and SRV's guitars are iconic and, indeed, Rory Gallagher's. Then there is Roy Buchanan and so it goes on.
-
Brian May's Red Special
Michael Schenkers black and white V
Randy Rhoads Polka Dot V
Paul Stanley's Mirrorball Iceman
George Lynch's Yellow Tiger or skull and bones guitar
Gene Simmons' Axe bass
Dimebag's "stormclouds" Dean ML
-
Michael Schenkers black and white V
+1
Leslie West's LP Juniors (I don't think there was really a definitive one, though)
Dave Meniketti's 1968 Les Paul
I voted for the Gary Moore/Peter Green LP, but the #1 for me would be:
Rory Gallagher's 1961 Stratocaster.
-
but the #1 for me would be:
Rory Gallagher's 1961 Stratocaster.
Believe me, I had it there ... again, stupid Poll Answers restriction ...

I think you are going to have to start another poll, and the winners from each can play off against each other

Surely this need Vai's Evo, and Paul's erm...
Paul's got soo many different PGM's and I don't know if he has a favourite :p
-
the one that looks like a Violin is cool.
-
I would say Rhoad's white V, considering he designed it himself and redesigned the V. It seemed like his design was a huge impact on the shape of metal guitars. and Randy is just awesome.
-
I voted BFG's Pearly Gates. That is the quintessential LP for me.
And PG's Les Paul is ace, although I'm not a massive fan of the out of phase sound.
-
Lucille for me...............all of them.
-
I'd say zappa's SG or Garcia's Tiger personally. I'd also give my right bollock for Gilmour's '54 white strat.
-
I also had _tom_s Epiphone Les Paul in the list before I had to cut down the options
:D
Out of those options I would say SRV strat, though I have to say I like the Jack Bauer (yes that is his real name :P) sig guitar is nice even if he's not famous for playing guitar. The Warren Haynes LP looks awesome tho - http://www.gibsoncustom.com/inspiredby/WarrenHaynes.html
-
Actually, not very classic and not a famous guitar player, but when I was in Ft. Lauderdale last week, I went to a guitar shop and saw a spanking new Gibson Kiefer Sutherland, now this is a seriously beautiful guitar and I'm sure it sounds fantastic.
-
It's Pearly for me. Surely the greatest Les Paul in the world?
-
None of these guitars cut it compared to Frank Zappa's custom made SG, or John Mchlaughlin's white double necked SG, that snapped in half in the 70s.
-
Loving how Frankenstein is winning - Considering it's probably one of the worst guitars in the world - Other than the "Super" bass ofcourse...
I think people misunderstand the question ;p
-
^ it sounds awesome though, so it can't be that bad. :P
-
Les Paul's Les Paul!
Randy will have to do though, would like the polka dot option though
-
i'm pretty happy people have picked less than pristine guitars... players guitars. from the list i pick 'pearly gates' although, actually what i wanted to choose is KK Downings '67 V... or possibly his Medallion V.
the white/black V of schenker would be a wise choice, although he had lots of the those, so as some one pointed out not just one physical guitar.
sounds ridiculous, but if someone offered me to swap the '67 Downing V for my beaten up Epi '57... well, i'm pretty attached to that Epi. of course i'd do it, but it would be a struggle. likewise the medallion for my steinberger.
wonder if anyone would swap the favourite guitar in their collection for one of these famous axes.
-
For ROCK, I voted for the E.V.H Frankenstrat.
I sure would like one of Zakk Wylde's custom Flying 'V's though ...
( not that I could do either full justice however ..... )
F.F.
-
I went for the wonder that is the immortal Pearly Gates for the sheer fact that it always was, and still is, the Reverends main weapon of choice.
Lucille has had too many incarnations, Page plays too many guitars (No1, No2, No3, Telecasters, that doubleneck etc!), and EVH now doesn't use the frankenstrat......which was a shed in my opinion anyway. Yes EVH made it sound amazing, but would you cherish it????
What about Mr Youngs SG?
-
gotta be Pearly Gates - that guitar always sounds so sweet.
helps when you can play like the Rev.B as well.

you know Randy used the PDV for that song right ? :P
-
What is the the threadnomancy, people?!!!
-
I'd vote for EVO: http://www.vai.com/Machines/guitarpages/EVO/EVO_index.html
-
I'd say EVH's Frankenstein because there is no mistaking who it belongs to.
I'm not saying it's my favourite... but it's the most famous.
-
Vai's swirled Universes. Yes, all of them.
-
Fook it, seeing as everyone else is doing it... some of my own personal favourite "iconic" guitars:
Dimebag's original Dean From Hell.
Chris Cheney's somewhat battered White Falcon.
John Frusciante's White Falcon.
John Frusciante's 62 Strat.
John Frusciante's 55 Tele.
Hendrix's psychadelic V.
Randy Rhoad's polka dot custom V.
Jerry Cantrell's polka dot Les Paul.
Josh Homme's Ovation Ultra-GP's.
-
i second the cowboys from hell guitar, as well as all of Randy's guitars.

Some of my personal favorites:
Brian Setzer's 1959 Gretsch 6120
Eddie Cochrane's 6120 with the P90 in the neck. (coolest guitar ever)
Malcolm Young's Gretsch Jet Firebird. (ugly but an icon)
Angus Young's SG
James Hetfield's white ESP Explorer
Keith Richard's Tele
Slash's sunburst Les Paul with 'normal' maple top
