I'm recording a track for my band, first atempt at something vaguely resembling a real recorded song, and I've programmed some simpleton guide drums in SX3s LM-7. I cant find a drum map for my ever so slightly nicked off teh net EZdrummer and DFh, see. Yes, I'm useless at this stuff :lol:
Alls well and good for now, till I buy DFH sup next month, but I cant get the midi track for the drums to mixdown into mp3 with the guitars. Can anyone tell me how I can get the drums (cr@p as they are) into MP3 please?

The guitars (I assume) are recorded as audio and the drums are a midi file. BOTH need to be 'reconciled' as it were into ONE single format (audio) to mix to mp3. This can be done several ways (often by re-recording the drum track through the interface as an audio track). Not too straight forward in my understanding and why I hav'nt messed with recording DFH over 'real' drums yet.
Not too helpful but hope gives ya some 'right track' to pursue.
Basically, get the drum track 'recorded' through your interface (whatever it may be) instead of simply 'drag/drop-importing' (as I asume you are doing) so it will become somthing other than a midi track.
Maybe some software is out there also but hav'nt tried any yet.

You're gonna have to feed the audio back into the soundcard and record the drums/guitar onto a seperate track. I'm assuming you've got a mixer for this ???
If you have the option to turn off monitoring for the recorded track I'd do so otherwise you might create a feedback loop.

I'm half asleep but if I'm reading you guys right your saying he needs to record the drums as a wave and not midi
couldn't he just set windows to record "what I hear" and then just play the drum track as it records?

So could I run a lead from the headphone jack to one of the high-z inputs (for gutars, really) on my E-Mu with the audio track in cubase muted as it records?

Or would running it to one 1/4 input, then another for stereo work better?
Or would any of that harm it? I absolutely dont want to risk that (I dont want to have to buy another!).
I dont have a mixer. Just the DAS.
I'm intrigued by this 'record what I hear', but I cant find it anywhere

I've been up to similar things recently and the way I got around a particular drum problem was to copy the section of drums onto a new project (just the drums mind) and then export those as a .wav. You can then re-import these back into your recording.

Ok, I bit the bullet and (heart in mouth!) tried various outputs to various imputs on my DAS with the recording track muted (I convinced myself that if its muted, it cant possibly feed back)
It recorded some drum-esque sounds but it had a really echo-y, tinny high end to the cymbals. That aint gonna work.
I cant find any commands in SX3 that let me export a midi track as a wav!
And still cant find 'record what I hear'
Does anyone know the where to find this stuff?
At this rate it looks like I'll need a second external recording device to line out to, then record back off it.

control panel > sound + devices > advanced > options > properties > select recording > tick "what U hear" box if it ain't ticked, the window will change to volumes for ways to record, tick the select box for "what U hear"

Hmmm, that's odd. Whenever I record midi drums I just do Audio Mixdown at the end and save it as MP3, never had any trouble with it. Mind you, I don't know if different versions of Cubase act differently in this respect, I am using SX.

+1 It should all go through the master mixer and save as an audio file.
I use VST, an older version but it should still be the same in principle.

Ok, I found out at the cubase forums that in many cases its impossible to get a soundcard-generated midi to record as audio. I followed the various suggestions there with no joy.
I think (/hope!) that because DFH and similar use midi to instruct the sequencer to play a wav sample that they mix down OK. That may be the difference, I dunno.
For the time being I'm just looping an out into an in and recording that. At low input levels the results arent much worse than the LM-7 sound is to begin with.
