Title: Phil's Amps
Post by: PhilKing on September 03, 2007, 10:32:03 PM
In response to the request to see the amps, here they are.  At the moment there are 3 in storage, 1 at Ear Candy and 1 in the England, they are a black face Princeton Reverb, a silver face Princeton reverb, converted to a hot rodded tweed deluxe (complete with 5881's), the original of the Lexicon Sig 284 - McIntyre SLP3.  At Ear Candy they have my 8 watt Marshall clone, it is getting a 2x10 cab and matching head box, and in England, a Boss Colt 50 converted to EL34's.  Also my main bass rig is not here, longish story on that so I'll leave it until I get it back!

These are:
Left Stack from bottom
Purple 1x12 closed back with Eminence Wizzard
Purple 1x12 open back with Blue Tick Hound
2x12 Avatar open back with 2 Eminence Tonespotters
Fender Princeton Reverb II with Tone Tubby Alnico Hempcone 12
Yamaha Lacquered wood practice amp - all ss
Middle Stack
McIntyre 4x8 Cab.  I am thinking of changing this to a 4x10, even though the 4x8 gets a good sound, I think I could bet a bit better with 10's.  It weighs a lot less than the amp!
McIntyre Bluesmaker - 20w version, 2xEL84's, 6 12AX7, 1 5Y3, switchable ss/tube rectifier, triode/pentode, class a/ab.  This was at NAMM in 1992 and we were ticketed for being too loud!
MiniMat with 1x12 - 6V6 model, heritage G12M (20 watt version).  I listened to all the speakers and this sounded best with the minimat at the time.
McIntyre Tradition Stereo 205RC - 6 12AX7's, 1 6V6, 1 EL84, GZ34, controls include compressor, reverb, harmonics, 5 active tones, master vol for each power amp, lead and clean channel wth footswitch.  This is a recording amp, but it is still much louder then you would expect.
Right Stack
Trace Elliott BLX - Bass amp that is great for small NY clubs
1x12 Ear Candy Sovereign with Celestion Sidewinder
Marshall Silver Jubilee 50W with Celestion Sidewinder
Lexicon Signature 284 - recoding amp - all tube stereo with 2 1xEL84 power sections.  Designed by John McIntyre
Smokey
Korg rack tuner
ADA Digital Gold mic pre
2 Studio Projects mic pre's.

I have a lot of John McIntyre stuff.  I think it all sounds great, but unfortunately he doesn't make amps anymore (though he still has about 6 of mine on his bench!).  If you see any of it on ebay, you should snap it up.

Nice collection, I especially like the Marshall SJ.

As you put the amps all together so neatly, wouldn't itbe nice to fire them all up and play through them all at once?

So now we're just missing the effects ...

I've got this picture of Phil in my head and he has 20 arms.

Maybe you should start a museum of tasteful guitars.

They don't make the Mk1 Mini-Mat anymore, but I think it was £249, the cab was around £330 I think (it was a little more because of the heritage G12M).

I remember my dad moaned at me when I bought my epiphone LP. He wouldnt understand the concept of it being "better" than the cr@ppy thing I started out with. He also went mental when I bought my Ibanez.... although he commended me on importing it since i saved some dosh.

I dont think he likes me playing, but when i hammer out a Queen tune it shuts him up for a while.

I was lucky and was single for 11 years, while I was making decent money, so that was when I could buy most of them, though my wife has bought me 2 or 3 guitars (depending how you count it, as she bought me a new PRS single cut when they first came out, and I wasn't really into it, so I took it back and got the Artist and a J-185 acoustic.  The other she asked me about first and I got the Ibanez GB-10).  My ex-wife on the other hand would have been driving me crazy by now (she was doing when we were married and I only had 10 guitars then!).
