Talk about the Odd Couple!
I love Marty Friedman, but weirdly on that clip I preferred what Kerry was playing - even his tone. Never thought I'd say that.

True..

:o Kerry King sounds amazing! Does anyone know what amp is that? Is that one of these new KK JCM 800's or something else?
Edit: I didn't really like Friedman in the clip, he started harmonsing things that shouldn't be harmonised and stuff, he didn't really know any of the songs either lol
Edit 2: It's not a KK JCM 800, it's either a normal JCM 800 or just a standard Marshall JCM 2000 or something

friedman's picking technique looks so weird and unnatural
there is a friedman and paul gilbert episode too
-
I know it's Friedman's show and everything, but the way he was harmonising anything that wasn't nailed down really got on my tits - he does the same in all the other episodes too.
Have a listen to his playing for a while and you hear the same pattern of licks ALOT - widdle widdle widlle, bend + hold note, legato bit, more widdle widdle widdle (ARGH!!!).
It's interesting that Kerry King just keeps it solid and chugs those brutal riffs out.
Talking of Slayer, I was listening to God Hates Us All yesterday and noticing how much energy Paul Bostaph brought to the band. I think getting Lombardo back was the wrong move - the new album is just very average (sounds like Seasons In The Abyss).

Can you play hotel california?
I cant believe you asked me to play such a sh/itty tune! I play in slayer! *pretends to walk off*

Martys playing in Megadeth is nothing less than outstanding. However, this clip show that Kerry should not be underestimated his playing is spot on.
-
Rock Fujiyama RULES!!!
i want to get all the episodes on dvd
-
You certainly won't find Diezels on Top of the Pops...

You won't find ANY amps on TOTP anymore - they cancelled it, remember?

Well, nice, but could Marty Friedman take that blanket off his amp .. or maybe increase the Treble to like "1"?
-
Man, I've been watching some of those other clips. The guy playing Clapton on his little...whatever it's called...I wanna say ukelele? Whatever, it's wicked! And watching Marty banter in Japanese was funny too, hehe.

You don't like Seasons?! :o
I don't like the newer Slayer but i like Seasons.
-
yep, I like Seasons but it was back in the early 90s - from the evidence of their subsequent albums I thought Slayer had developed their sound. The recent album just seems a real backwards step.
Diabolus In Musica and God Hates Us All both have the hardcore Slayer riffs, but also some great groove too. A song like Warzone is what Slayer is all about - speed and aggression.
I think we've seen the last great Slayer studio album with GHUA - a real pity as they're still a fantastic live band, so it's not a question of being able to do it anymore, rather songwriting.
The campaign starts right here - Lombardo out, Bostaph in!!! Lombardo out, Bostaph in!!! Lombardo out, Bostaph in!!! Lombardo out, Bostaph in!!!

Haha, you can't take Lombardo out he is THE Slayer drummer, and i can't see it being his fault for the album being cr@ppy.

I loved it, looks like a really fun show, would love to see a full episode of it...
A mate of mine had the Marty Freidman Hot Licks instructional video in the 80s - it was goddam awesome. As for his picking technique, it doesn't seem to inhibit his lead playing ;) but I've always wondered how he plays palm-mute rhythm with that hand position (although Mustaine has often said that Marty sucked at rhythm playing when he first joined Megadeth...)

+1
Besides, that would take Bostaph out of Exodus - he was awesome on SHKM (actually everything about that album is awesome, apart from the dumb name)
-
Never mind, I forgot that Tom Hunting recently rejoined Exodus again....

I think of Seasons as the last good Slayer album.
Divine Intervention was awful, as was Diabolus.
Still a really good live band though...
-
heh, I'm just kidding about Lombardo - he's done some great work with Slayer though I'd say his playing on the new album is pretty boring, I liked what Bostaph brought to the table (mixed things up a little and gave Slayer more 'groove').
The material on the new album is weak, that's why the new album ain't great. There are a few decent songs though.
I agree that Divine Intervention isn't very good - there's only a few songs on that album that are any cop.
Diabolus though - I love that album, I can never see why people hate it.
