Ceramic warpig and whole new scratch plate fitted to make it look like a junior!

Just what i've always wanted, and blue!

Looks like something the guy from Fall Out Boy would play  :)

How does it sound?

Nice colour!  Who did the refinish?

It's not a refinish, just one of the colours that the 61 reissues come in, there were a limited number though and america only sold

They were over here in the UK too - Peter Cooks had them, as did Guitar Village and a couple of other places...

That's fighting talk where I come from

Bet you get more 'spring' from the guitar with only having the one pickup now (less string pull).  I've just been getting a LP jr and I noticed it had that same 'kerrang' as my old SG jr when you bash out some open chords - I attribute that to the single pickup.

How easy was it to fit the pickup mounting ring?
I've been comtemplating fitting one to my SG Standard.  With the pups being mounted to the scratch plate the strings are at an angle over the polepieces of the neck pup.  I've tried padding with foam under the scratch plate but can't get the angle right.
Would also make it easier for swapping out pups (no removing of scratchplate, tune-o-matic bridge...)

Cheers!

Nah, because by having a BKP in it, it shows that the user knows something about guitar tone

I really like that shade of Blue :)

looks really cool for an SG

what are all the controls doing with one pickup - i suppose the most obvious answer is to wire the humucker like two single coils with seperate volume and tone controls

Thanks guys!

BM - The 61 reissues come with pickup rings so i can't really answer your question, sorry

Brow - i love that shade of blue too :D

WezV - They are not doing anything really, except the other volume control still works, so if i put the pickup selector in the middle position, i can set a rhythm volume :) Strange eh?!

I really like it. I'd really like to pimp my SG though, but my decisiveness has went out the window recently. Can't make up my mind about what I want to do with my guitars

Just wondering, how versatile are you finding the Warpig in a single-pickup SG?  Does it respond well to the tone control?

I've been planning for ages to get an (alnico) WP for my second SG-X.  I'll get round to it eventually.

Hey Phil, i have an SG-X with a hot wound Rebel Yell and it sounds mint! But there's something more to the warpig in my opinion, it just sounds meaner, bigger!

I'll post a video in the week or some clean and overdriven stuff

It's a bit different from the normal SGs, it looks very punkified. It must have some serious sustain on that bitch! lol

Blue guitars FTW!

I think white Sg's look the best though.

If we're playing show me yours and I'll show you mine...

Not expecting any agreement here, but I think green SGs look the best.

I think it was the next series of SG-Xs after yours.  There were 3 in ugly colours with black scratchplates (Army Green, Chocolate Brown and Rust), then a little later they did 3 in pretty colours with white scratchplates (Caribbean Blue, Corona Yellow and Coral Pink - don't think we ever got them in the UK).

I also have an Ebony one, which must have stayed in production after they discontined the Dark Wineburst (is that what your one is?), because it has a scratchplate.

My green one?  No, it's had quite a few mods, but nothing irreversible - black pearl scratchplate instead of the black one, a couple of different sets of locking tuners, coil split switch rewired to series/parallel, loads of pickup changes (ended up with a Riff Raff).

Here are the various SG-X models:

The white, green and warmoth SGs look sexy! I've always had a thing for SGs.

Oh I see! I've never seen before one of those... well, here in my country is very hard to see a Gibson, very expensive, so when you see one, usually is a Standard or Custom... the "unusual" ones never come... But I like yours (just the green isn't much my way  :D )

Phil, you have an amazing memory!

SG-X's are great value for money, this one has a rebel yell in and it's much hotter than the one in my standard

Phil, you have an amazing memory!

Thanks  :) , but it's getting quite unreliable, unfortunately - I can remember things I read 25 years ago but I forget things I did yesterday!  If only I could find a way of converting a memory for useless facts into cold hard cash... (Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, maybe?)

I like the look of the black covered pickup on your 'burst SG-X, it really suits it.  I went into Peter Cook's once and one of the assistants was playing an SG-X that colour - he said "this is the best guitar in the shop"!

The SG-X to me is a perfect backup guitar, although i used it as my first when i had the standard, ultra light! You don't even realise you have it on when you have a long gig
