Hi guys, I have a HD in a Kramer stagemaster, Its a maple neck thru with alder wings ebony fingerboard, The action on these guitar super. a blast to play But the HD as this mid hollow type honk going on. Not to the point where its annoying by any means but How will the Crawler work to maybe take some of the honk out, also the crawler is a little less output which is ok too. Thanks.
I just maybe getting hooked on mahogany. To me mahogany and high gain amps are made for each other. Maybe I'm just getting old. :(
Any ways. I do love Bks, Its really hard to go back to any other pick up once you own them,

I havent got a hint of honk from my crawlers. I havent played the HDs so I dont know how they comnpare.
Its hard to describe crawlers completely. They can do anything. Except honk

mid hollow? :?
the hd is anything but mid hollow
at least in mahogany
but alder always feel scooped to me
maybe you could try it in another guitar first?

Its like the mids have an open sound going on. I changed the pot also. Maybe the bridge is messed up some how Yes I will try the crawler in the same guitar when I get it, Thanks Guys.

Both the Cold Sweat and Abraxas work well in neck through guitars. How is the tone acoustically? The mid range could be coming from the neck through, it will be much brighter than a normal maple/ebony necked guitar. The wings on a neck through make less difference to the sound than the neck material itself.

I've got a Cold Sweat in a neck-through & it sounds spot on.

Cool thats what I was looking to hear, not what I was wanting to here, but maybe I will have to put the Crawler in the Kramer and the Hd in the ESP M-1 bolt on. Thanks for all the info. I was always a 2 guitar guy, Had one for 22 years, and another for 17, Been getting different ones here and there,

Mahogany without a maple top is all bass and low mids... could easily be a little mid hollow, and I thought the Holy Divers weren't the most mid-heavy pickups but I'm not sure about that. Maple has a lot of high mids so it will balance on top of mahogany.
I don't think the Crawlers are particularly mid heavy either but they're certainly not mid lacking either. Perhaps Nailbombs or Rebel Yells would work too, but I'm not sure how much more mids he wants or exactly what I'm comparing it to.
Alder is also all mids. Maybe you're thinking of basswood?

Let me know how they compare.

LOL!!!! I read on a thread elsewhere here that the Crawler is the most middy pickup. We need an EQ chart from Tim for sure.

I thought the Crawlers had a lot more bass and maybe low mids too... more vintage voiced. The clips I've heard sure sound that way and I've seen posts from more than one Crawler players who found they had a shiteload of bass.

I can't get over how well I love the crawler; can't put the guitar down now, well I have one guitar left to switch over too BK's . Think maybe something like the holydiver but want one with less output, I just might get another crawler but I do like a variety.

My sense has been that the Crawler has more mids than a vintage PAF-style, like the Mule (and, so, more mids than a hot PAF like the Abraxas), but there might be more middy pickups, too ....

They are pretty middy. Not 'honky' though. Depends on the guitar, of course. Mine are in an Epi LP, so mahogany and alder.
