Just read this on bravewords.com:
As previously reported, rock heavy-weights LED ZEPPELIN are set to announce their reunion gig this week. According to NME.com, the band have called a press conference for 4 PM (British Summer Time) on Wednesday, September 12 at the O2 Arena in London. As we revealed last week, singer Robert Plant confirmed that the rumours about Led Zeppelin reforming were in fact true.
He explained that the band had a meeting about show last week (September 5) and said the reunion will be for one night only.
"There's not a lot to work out as it's only going to be one-off gig," he explained.
NME.com understands that the show will be held at O2, possibly on November 26, and is a charity gig being organised by legendary promoter Harvey Goldsmith.
Good luck to anyone with enough money and clout to see this gig! I'm jealous!!
-
Who's going to be on drums? I think I read somewhere that John Bonham's son is a possible?
-
I'm not sure, but Jason Bonham did tour with Jimmy Page for the Outrider tour and he played really well. That's probably the defacto rumour at this point in time. I guess the press conference will shed further light on it!
-
:D There`s been alot of bad press lately about ticket pricing & rip off prices being charged. I dread to think how bad this is going to be !

It's going to be a luxury item. For those willing to pay, I say more power to em. I paid an arm and a leg to see Heaven & Hell at Radio City, was in 2nd row right in front of Iommi, and loved every minute of it, as well as have memories that will last a lifetime. Was I scalped on the ticket price? Yes! But in the end, it didn't matter.
-
If it is indeed for charity (with little 'management etc.' scalping) then thats one thing.
But some ticket prices, aka Rolling Stones, are WAY hard to justify imo.
Heck I paid (after taxes/fees) $75 a ticket for front tickets to see ZZ Top here and I KNOW Billy et all do NOT need that kinda money and it was'nt exactly a HUGE show (as in fireworks/set etc.).
I think some promoters need to realise there IS or at least SHOULD BE some kind of price cap so as NOT to be elitist which is NOT what music is meant to be about in the first place.
Rant over :)
-
^ It's not what the music is about, but then they will just say 'well, buy the DVD and don't attend the show.'
And no offense intended, but Zepplin is not the Stones or ZZ Top.
-
None taken (offence).
I sidetracked on the Zep thing to other comments.
For charity GREAT!
And for a ONE OFF am SURE they can charge pretty much whatever AND sell out. And this is VERY commendable and great for any receiving charity!
However, I personally would not necessarily pay WAY too much as Bonzo is up there with SRV,Hendrix,Darryll et all. I have seen Bob and Jim countless times and Zep (to me) is not Zep with Bonzo, R.I.P.
But what I mean is, why (without a HUGE/COSTLY stage show) should/do some bands get away with charging fans ALOT more than others (where on the face of it they have been around along time/iconic but also are so successful they don't need the extra money).
I have been to too many concerts to count but as example two of late (both excellent tickets)
ZZ Top $75
Godsmack $45
(bear in mind multiple tickets therefore adds up)
Neither had a 'huge' stageshow, played any longer than other etc.
SOME has to do with respective venue and 'their' charges, but alot surely is to do with management and that 'should' be able to be controlled by the band.
Seperate note, I HATE when tickets sell out (say here in Houston) and people are selling the BEST tickets for scalped prices and they are located in NY!!!!!!!!!! AAAGGGHHHH lol
-
on the ticket prices, you should try here in Ireland, tickets for the Stones were about £100 and up, that's 200 of your yankee dollars!! and all shows now seem to have similarly exhorbitant prices, even small club shows cost at least double what they do in England.
as to the Led Zep thing, i must admit i'm kinda ambivalent about it after there being a new reunion rumour every 18 months or so, but i know if i had the chance to go i'd be there!! there's the feeling inside that they can never possibly live up to the hype and the idealised memories, but it will be interesting to finally see them try.
-
I am voting for Geoff Whitehorn on Drums, he does the Bonzo like no other.
-
I heard these rumours last week and earlier in the year. I think it's a case of wait and see. If they do it's got to be 150 at least i would have thought.
Also as it's at the 02, 02 mobile customers get priority tickets and could be a massive ploy to get more customers. I'm one anyway so it makes no diference to me, but just a thought. I did hear it was going to be Jason Bonham on drums too.
-
Well Osbourne/BLS was £40, which would be $80, and Motley Crue was similar.
Its all so expensive
-
Indeed it is.
The Stones was $250 here for a so so seat! So more expensive in the sun than Irish mud it seems :P
I remember paying 20 quid (if memory serves) as a kid to see Donington Monsters of Rock!
Also, being a Brit in US is not all 'el cheapo'. Try finding HP sauce let alone paying the 3x amount for it :(
-
maybe prices aren't all so different then, although that was a seat, the £100 here was standing. a seated ticket was quite a lot more.
course, it's all down to what the public are willing to pay, and these days it seems that while people expect recorded music to be free, they're willing to pay through several noses for tickets! a friend of mine payed over £300 last year to see Pearl Jam, off a tout of course, but they always seem to be able to get all the tickets they want while genuine fans can't get any.
hmm, a little off topic there, sorry bout that! although it'll be interesting to see how much the Zeppelin tickets'll be, and how many show up on e-bay.

Geoff Whitehorn the guitarist? :?

Oooh, I like the sound of that Brutal Beats CD. Not that I have a clue how to use drum samples, but I can learn (maybe).

The O2 Arena site is down ...
http://www.theo2.co.uk/
What's happening?????????????????
-
I think Michael Lee is a likely choice for drums as well. Fortunately I saw Page & Plant on their 2 previous reunion tours. They easily lived up to expectations. 8) 8)

Apparently Foreigner are on the bill too, so I guess Jason could be playing with both bands?

It's been done before, but I always thought that was a bit cheesy ...

Harsh!
Some of their songs are horribly syrupy, but their good stuff is really good.
-
The support is from Bill Wymans Rhythm Kings with special guests Pete Townsend and Paolo Nutini.
£125 a ticket though so it's going to be a bit wallet melting!
-
Just heard on the radio, Led Zepplin at 02, November 26th.
Jason Bonham on drums.
Tickets are going to be a ballot.
There is a website but not sure of the address I'll see if I can find out.
Well, sounds good eh!! :D
-
Ok it's on their official website but the link to register your name for tickets seems to be not working, as is the 02 site.
Just read tickets 125 each.
-
ZEPPLIN!!!!
-
The website is
http://www.ahmettribute.com
but it keeps crashing. I don't know if I registered or not.
-
It keeps crashing on me too Phil, I think zepp fans world wide are trying to register me thinks this is going to be futile!
-
I WISH all tickets were done with the glasto system. I $%ING HATE TOUTS.
-
[Harsh!

i dunno, that "i wanna know what love is" song has kinda blighted them for me. it's like the worst, cheesiest song ever... and I like 80's rock/metal!
-

+1
they had so many good songs and were great to see live
Strangely - one of my fave gigs by them was them at London's Marquee club with Johnny Edwards (ex -Montrose/ King Kobra) replacing Lou Gramm on the Unusual Heat tour
Admittedly I wanna know what love is did make me gag , but the rest of their output was ace
People forget that they were essentially a British band with an American singer........
-

But funnily enough, it's one of those songs that actually sounds good if you haven't heard it for a few years - once you've forgotten how annoying it was when it was on the radio all the time. Much like Wind Of Change by Scorpions, in fact!
I think the worst Foreigner songs are the album tracks with Mick Jones on vocals - he has such a twee little voice. But I only have the early albums, I don't know if he ever sings on the later stuff.
Back on topic:
Well, I'm registered for Zeppelin tickets. Npw let's wait and see what happens on Oct 1st. I suppose most of them will be given away to people like Abi Titmuss and former Big Brother contestants...
-
i dunno, i never heard it on heavy rotation on the radio and it still makes me cringe...
-
Actually, thinking about it, it's Waiting For A Girl Like You I've been hearing recently.
I Want To Know What Love Is does make me cringe a bit... I love Lou Gramm's vocal for the first couple of verses, but the gospel choir makes me feel slightly pukey...
-
Can someone update me please, what was again the reason why we, in this thread about the greatest bands of all times, suddenly speak about Foreigner?
I think they should allocate the tickets by the number of Zep songs applicants can play. Maybe at least then I'd have a slight chance to get a pair 8)

That was my fault  - the show's a tribute to the late Ahmet Ertegun and, as one of Atlantic Records' all-time most successful acts, Foreigner are, according to some sources, on the bill.

Hmmm. Do you think I could scr@pe in on the intro to Stairway and a couple of little bits of Heartbreaker and Communication Breakdown? :?
-
am in india at the moment... the reunion was mentioned on the national news.
-
still can't get the registration page to come up, apparently around 20 million are already registered! snowball, hell, anyone?
-
Me neither but if the 02 dome holds 18000 and 20000000 have registered then the odds of getting a ticket based on that are 1.1000,000/1
So you have 12 times more chance of winning a zepp ticket than the lottery!
So shall we meet at the bar inside the dome?

1.1 million to 1? but only 20 people would get in!
closer to 1000/1, surely (18000 x 1000= 18,000,000)
EDIT: BTW, best way of registering is to open each new page in 10 tabs, and bombard all of them with your details at once- 2 of mine got through.
-
Yes a rather large miscalculation there on my part!
I did fill out the form 3 times on the web page but I don't know if the info was received. Did you get a conformation?
I was wondering if my pals in the whole lotta led tribute might get an invite. They got one for the DVD premier a few years back.
-
I got a little message saying my info had been received and a confirmation email a few hours later
-
finally got registered, see you all there!!! :P
-
so, anyone get a nice e-mail yet? i've been trying to look casual and unconcerned while checking my mail every five minutes all evening!! nothing yet :?
-
Nothing yet, but I'm still hoping! :)
-
Nah, doesn't look good. there's already buggers selling their passcodes on e-bay for small fortunes! on the day of reckoning, ticket touts will have a special ring of hell reserved for them!
-
Nada.
-
I guess the ones who got an email are staying quiet incase they suddenly get lots of new friends
-
This cheered me up no end!!!!
http://www.harveygoldsmith.com/news-and-press-release-item.php?item=19
Basically if your address doesn't match that of the person who was awarded the passcode then the ticket is invalid!!!
I feel sorry for the rich mugs who've parted company with over 250 quid just for a passcode that won't work, but at least it means that the unscrupulous touts who would have applied for the tickets in the hope of selling them on will now have to fore-go their tickets, and one of us might get lucky on the second allocation.
-
Tickets, Tickets, anyone got spare tickets?
-
For those few who didn't get the tickets they wanted, word is they might do glasto :D
http://ultimate-guitar.com/news/upcoming_tours/led_zeppelin_in_talks_for_glastonbury.html?1208321507#comments
Although they have apparently been turned down for being too expensive, if they are willing to play glasto for some ungodly sum, they should be willing to play some big gigs or the other festivals (*crosses fingers* ReadingReadingReadingReading*uncrosses fingers*)
-
For those few who didn't get the tickets they wanted, word is they might do glasto :D
From a selfish point of view, I kind of hope they don't. I'd feel I ought to go, but I'm too old for tents and all that mud.

The gigs been put back a few weeks hasn't it? Apparently Jimmy was pissed up, fell over in his garden and broke a finger!
