Well, my Miracle Men (lol) are here, and I bought 2 push/push pots (One is still on its way) but I don't really understand the wiring diagram. On the little wiring diagram it says there are wiring schematics on the website, but I cant find them. They are 4 Conductor, and I plan to have each pup individually able to coil split.
I'm so happy, te service is amazing :D :D :D

Please help, I realy have no idea what goes where. Also... the pot that I bought is like, a tower, with little progns sticking out whih I'm guessing is where I solder to BUT the ones in my SG are like, disc type pots :?:
-
I can't help you myself, but in your position I'd be emailing Tim.
-
Well first, what kind of guitar is this? That would really help...
-
If I were you, I'd start by doing a straight swap with the existing wiring/pots, then worry about fitting the coil splitting later.
It was an SG right? If so, then it's one of the easiest guitars of all to wire up.
Bascially (assuming you for 4-conductor), the red wire goes on the same terminal of whichever volume pot you removed the Gibson pickup from.
The black & bare wires you solder to the back of one of the pots (each pot will already be grounded)
In other words, simply detach two connections from each of the existing Gibson pickups & replace with the corresponding BKP wires :)
When you eventually get the push/pull pots, you wire them into the tone controls, then uncover the white & green wires from the BKP (they usually come already solderde/taped together) & solder them to onen of the terminals little circuit board looking bit on the bottom of the push/pull pot).

Cheers antag! And yeh its an SG
Could you possibly tell me which wire goes where on this kind of pot

Its push push, but I don't know which wire goes to which one of the prongs, and then how it conects to the tone pots?
AlsoI'd rather not risk it by soldering to the existing pots, and then re soldering... if you get me

This is pretty much it:
http://www.guitarelectronics.com/product/WDUHH3T2206
except they are using both side of the switch for a master coil tap. so you will need to wire the middle wires to each push/pull pot rather than one for individual coil splits
-
So if I'm putting them in place of the volume pots, I wire the middle wires to the adjacent tone pot? Also, what do you mean middle wire? The hot output one?
-
not very clear was it - green and white are your coil split wires, they will be joined togther and wired to one of the middle lugs on the rectangular part of the push pull pot. the red wire will go to the middle tag on the round section and the black and bare wires will go to ground (side of pot).

Here's another one. This is a Seymour Duncan diagram with two separate push/pull pots replacing the tone controls.
http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=2h_2v_2t_3w_2pp
Note that the BKP colour coding scheme is different:
SD black = BKP red
SD green = BKP black
SD red/white = BKP green/white
(Edit: Sorry, I'm duplicating what Wez has posted while I was typing!)
I'm just wondering though, have you tried your push/push pots in the SG before you start wiring? The SG body is so shallow, I've found that most push/pull pots are too tall to fit in the control cavity.
-
ooh, good point philly - i didnt pcikup up he was doing an sg
-
My concern is that that push/pull gubbins is about twice the thickness of the SG itself...

No I tried just slotting it into the guitar eariler, and it fits.. just

How come both pups green wires (BKP blacks) are going to the same volume pot?
-
its best to have all you earth wires going to the same point to prevent ground loops
-
Ohhhh right awesome!
And whats the thin black wire on there, thats not coming from any of the pups :?
-
That's the wire connected to the bridge or tailpiece which grounds the strings (notice how there's less hum when you touch the strings or other metal parts?).
-
Ohhh wow, thats much easier than I thought then, cheers guys :D

This site has some excellent wiring diagrams.

Ok, the second pot is here, so soon I can put the new pups in :D
One question... what about the little blue cap things on the potentiometers that are already there?
