Title: Electro Harmonix Effects
Post by: smudger123 on September 27, 2007, 04:40:04 PM
Having A-B'd the new Micro Clone Theory with a Small Clone today I must say I was very disappointed in the clone theory, it did not sound as lush or warm as the Small Clone. Are any of these new EHX small footprint pedals digital I know the Holy Grail & Echo pedals are but I thought the modulation and distortion / fuzz boxes were analouge. Can anyone clarify this for me?

Thanks!  :D

Do they still take the odd power supplies? I like my big muff, and would like a EH chorus pedal, but not if they need a male power jack.

The Micro Clone Theory takes a Boss style AC adapter but sounds rubbish, the Small Clone was way, and I mean WAY better

I think EHX make some great pedals... but they suffer from a couple of issues:

1. Novelty over-sized cases (obviously they finally realised this with the Micro and Nano series)
2. Noisy operation.

That's it for me really, the noise kills it. I got one of the mini chorus pedals too and sent it back the next day, the sound quality was... alright... but the noise was horrendous. Bought an MXR Stereo Chorus instead and I LOVE it.

^ Must just be the nano series that have the noise problems, I have a deluxe memory man and a little big muff and they're both virtually silent (though they give off a very slight "pop" when you turn them on or off, I think it's a true bypass thing though).

Electro Harmonix are great!

Things like the Small Stone are superb imo.

Could be, yeah. For all its other faults,my Muff was never noisy (boom boom). The popping is just static isn't it? Sometimes needs pressing a couple of times to discharge it.

I've got a Tube Zipper. It does sound good, but with six knobs and two buttons I feel like I've hardly scratched the surface with it...
