Title: Recommend a practice amp

I thought you gearheads might have a recommendation on a good, cheap, low-volume amp for practice.

Solid state is fine, and it doesn't need to have rediculous gain levels. Two channels (footswitch isn't necesary), effects loop is prefered, but what's most important is that it sounds decent at low volumes. Not much higher than 100 bucks (£50) used, but if possible less than that.

To extend the theme of this thread, it'd be okay for you to just say what amp you use for practice and what you like and don't like about it.

I had a Tech 21 Trademark 10 (discontinued now) which is a great small amp and had a decent speaker simulator for going into a desk, you might get one of those for around £60 on ebay...

Roland Microcube, reatils around £80, seen them in my local shop used for £40.

Peavey Rage 258 for around the same money has a nice clean channel, but I'd buy the Microcube first.

back to the original question, the microcube is good fun, but possibly more geared towards heavier styles...

The Microcube or the Vox DA5 are both excellent practice amps - I think the Vox has the edge though.

My approach is one of these small valve combos, sure I have a Valve Jnr, but Thomann in germany are doing the Harley Benton clone of the Epi amp, both the head and the combo, for £60! Out of the box, they are pretty good, but modded, they are awesome. They also sound great with pedals.

The other advantage is that they are also very loud, and will easily keep up with a drummer for the odd jam too. I have known people gig with them too.
