You don't see that kind of exotica where I live, but the internets has me all curious as to how their SugarCone speakers sound like.

I have an Ear Candy Sovereign (1x12), with a Celestion Sidewinder and a Sweet Tooth 2x10 with Eminence Ramrod and Lil' Buddy speakers. I am just waiting delivery of a 1x15 bass cab. I have a 15" Sidewinder for that.
The cabs are amazingly well built and Tim (another Tim who is into tone!), will build using woods specifically for what sound and speakers you are using. Jamie does a great job of covering the cabs too.
I haven't heard their speakers, but I know that they spent a long time getting them made to spec. Tim (Earcandy Tim that is), is a guitarist and uses a Splawn so you know he likes driven tones!

Yeah.... I own a sovereign 1x12 with a Eminence Swamp Thang that kills for a 1x12 cab...... I have to agree that Tim P. builds cabs with a passion a lot of other manufacturers seem to have a lack of.... Instead of something just slapped together. Tim has taken his time perfecting these cabs...... Best cabs... and the only ones I'll use.... I'm not endorsed or any of that.... I just personally love the tone I get out of his cabs. I just custom ordered a Buzzbomb 2x12 with some of his own speakers made by Jensen in it.... One of them being a EC Green Machine and the other a EC Clone...... 2 flavors to get a good mix.... I haven't heard these speakers personally... but I trust his judgment on tone...... E-mail Tim and see what he can come up with after you give him what type of tone you're after....

Cool. I was wondering how much of a difference there is between Ear Candy and Brand X or whether it was just hype.
Then again, as a guitarist, I should know better than to ask.

Well that's why there's forums like this so people can ask questions. I figure if you're a guitarist and you need to ask a question. Who better to ask than other guitarists that might have an answer to your dilemma. I'm curious as to what type of sound you're wanting?.... Earcandy cabs have a lot of girth to their tone..... If you like metal like I do.... Earcandy does the trick very well.... but they mainly give out what the guitarist is doing.... They let all the tone of your guitar really shine through..... I've owned my share of cabs and have played through even more.... I started out with a Randall 4x12 cab... Horrible speakers... horrible tone.... Got rid of that..... Then I went with a Marshall 1960AV Vintage cab with celestion vintage 30's.....Which was a step up.... but still wasn't the tone I was after... I don't think the 1960BV would've made much of a difference than the slant verson tone wise..... So I got rid of that..... I then went to a Genz-Benz G-flex 2x12..... I found that to be closer to what I wanted and cheaper than Mesa cabs with equal tone...... I played on two of those cabs for about 4 or 5 years.... I still have those cabs...... I need to get rid of them so I can make room for the new Earcandy...... I finally fell upon Earcandy in 05'.... Ordered the Sovereign and since then I've never looked for another brand of cab..... It's perfect to my ears..... Plus you get to pick out just about everything..... Even do custom off the wall stuff like I ordered..... When I get the cab.... I'll be sure and post some pics.... It's gonna be evil.

My attempt at witticism was aimed at us guitar players, since we always seem to fall for the "buy this expensive gizmo and at least you will get tone like your heroes!"
I am not immune to this hype.
My favorite sound is usually the one I am not getting at the moment, or the sound that the other guy is getting.
That does not help.

Yeah..... Generally the younger the more influenced on the gear their heros use.... If that were the case with me when I was younger ...... I'd have all the endorsed bullshitee Dimebag used or all the shite Zakk Wylde uses..... I tend to stray from the norm and delve into my own sound.... Granted that I'll have the influences of the heros with me.... but the sound won't be mimicking their's down to the exact gear..... I have all my stuff custom made usually..... I don't like using the same cr@p everyone else uses.... Mesa Boogie, Gibson, Fender.... etc etc..... Although I do have guitars that aren't custom.... Mainly my 3 main axes being a Jackson Kevin Bond model RR, Carvin CT-6 california carved top, and a Dean Time capsule ML which I just ordered a ceramic warpig for in the bridge... ( First time bareknuckle user )..... I figured I'd give these guys a shot.... Since I mainly went on looks alone because not everybody has quality sound clips on here..... these guys also have great feedback and a ton of support and obviously people love bareknuckle pickups..... So I might have gone a little bit on hype on these pickups.... but sometimes you have to when you have no other way of knowing whether you'll like it or not...... You just gotta go for it and hopefully it's what you want..... You just gotta take your time and really narrow down your decision making...... Think of all the things you want out of a guitar, amp, pickups, speakers, etc....... It goes all the way down to what type of wood your guitar body and neck is..... Tone is in everything.... or a lack there of...... That's why I say to research the hell out of gear before you make a rock solid decision...... That way you avoid risk of making a bad one...

I don't mean to be rude, Chunk-zilla, but all those "......" make it very difficult to read your posts. I've given it a good try, because what you say is really useful!!
A few carriage returns wouldn't go amiss :)
Sorry for the interruption!

Sorry about that. It's a bad habit. Glad to see someone is actually finding this useful. For a while I thought I was just typing a bunch of psycho babble that nobody would read.

You could say that I am old enough to know better. Or at least old enough to know what hype I as a guitarist am succeptible to.
