Did anyone get one in the end
-
you mean the windsor studio? is it even out yet? the release date has been pushed back several times as far as I'm aware...
-
I'm waiting for someone to buy my vox. Once thats gone ill have some money to get one.
The newest release date is the 3rd of December. GAK however have them on there website, and apparently in stock... Soooo?
I hope they can do 80's rock/shred tones.
Edit:
Actually im not to sure. It only has two preamp valves. Where as the Laney VC15 for example has 3 preamp valves.
Im guessing its all about if i want to have power amp distortion or not. The Laney would need to be cranked loud to get that and the Windsor wont. The laney will presumable have more preamp gain but I could just boost the Windsor with a tube screamer or similar to get it into those 80's rock tones?
failing that I'll just get the Grainger HammerHead half stack from soundcontrol (Re-named Epiphone So-Cal)

interesting amps

well, the thing is, the windsor head has 3 12ax7's, but one of those would be the phase inverter, presumably... so i'm guessing it could have the same amount of gain as the head. though from what i hear it's a bit more vintage-voiced. it's virtually impossible to tell how much gain it'll have from the number of tubes, of course, as the circuit will affect things too...
EDIT: i assume the laney is push-pull too, so in that case one of those 12ax7's would also be the PI. so i wouldn't necessarily say the laney has "more" pre-amp gain.
also, i liked that hammerhead when i tried it. a bit noisy, but if you already have a cab (and noise suppressor), that's a good deal. would be worth waiting to try the windsor first, though.

Tried the laneys..there nice for the price, havn't had my hands on the windsor yet, graingers are a bit like a bad copy of the epi's (so is a bad copy of a cheap amp, sound a bit dead to me...but cheap to mod to a much better amp....have tried a modded one and there great)
