Hmmm ... Does Love belong in the pantheon of great front women?!!
-
Probably a wholebuncha Japanese bands...
Show Ya, Princess Princess, and if we count solo artists, Nanase Aikawa...
[And, with a great deal of hope and optimism as I look in my Crystal Ball...
Gal Force :) That's the plan at least... :)]
-
Lee Aaron - amazing voice... does more Jazz influenced material now apparently.
-
Hole

i knew someone would say that
I dont particularly like the woman but the songs are good and i like her scream. Shame she cant write her own songs but she definately has stage presence
-
The Mother Station (Susan Marshall and guitarist Gwin Spencer)
Headpins (Darby Mills)
Sass Jordan (solo artist, but what a voice)
Baby Animals (Suze DeMarchi)
Saraya (Sandi Saraya)
Toronto (Holly Woods)
Arch Enemy (Angela Gossow, although I actually can't stand her "singing")
Fairport Convention (Sandy Denny)
and...
Evanescence (Amy Lee. Sorry if you all hate 'em, but I'm a fan)
-
Fairport Convention (Sandy Denny)
Forgot about Sandy Denny!

Fleetwood Mac
Fleetwood Mac went to shite when Peter Green went crazy and left. I cannot permit myself to stay quiet on the subject as they went from a competent blues band into a folky pop band :x
-
Rilo Kiley - Jenny Lewis is a goddess.
oo and The Distillers - Brody Dalle owns
-
Warlock/solo DORO
This was the very first thought that entered my head, along with Heart.
A few from my playlist:
Siouxsie and the Banshees
Cocteau Twins
Lush
Arch Enemy
Giant Drag (Annie Hardy totally rocks)
The Gathering
Mazzy Star
The Bangles
Elysian Fields (Jennifer Charles = most seductive voice in rock)
Acid King
-
McQueen
-
glad someone mentioned giant drag!
-
Patti smith.
-
Mother's Finest
and i have to mention Juliette and the Licks!
-
I liked:
Lita Ford
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts (paid £1.20 to see them in 1985 at the Marquee)
Fiona
Pat Benatar
Lee Aaron
Warlock with Doro
Saraya
Planet of Women
Evanescence
HEART
Fleetwood Mac
Suzi Quattro
Robin Beck
Girlschool
No Doubt
Rock Goddess
-
Stream of Passion (Marcela Bovio. The great Lori Lindsruth certainly put her mark on the band aswell, but sadly not anymore)
Mostly Autumn (Heather Findlay)
Jeniffer Batten
-
Stevie nicks fleetwood mac and her solo stuff, very unique original voice probably the best
Tarja in Nightwish was awesome also
An older more rare one would be Grace Slick, she had some pretty original stuff going on
Chicks don't tend to like rock so much really its a very male dominated music area sadly!
-
Evanescence - Amy Lee
Nighwish - Tarja Turunen (Not so sure on the new singer)
No Doubt - Gwen Stefani
Jennifer Batten
Paramore - Hayley Williams, who is probably the only singer i've ever heard sing live as good as she sounds on the albums. Such a great range.
-
These are on the lighter side of what you could consider 'rock', but here goes...
* Aimee Mann
* Juliana Hatfield
* Garbage
-
Am I allowed to say Bonnie Raitt. Joni Mitchell though both ladies didn't front name bands or have I missed the point of this thread having just got in from a Friday night gig.
-
Oh God how did I forget...
Veruca Salt.
-

Classic Lee Aaron
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4n6WjXWc-Fw
It's like a Manowar video - great stuff!
I still have the album on vinyl
Saw her support Bon Jovi at the Dominion Theatre (7800 tour)
Looks like she had Ron Jeremy on guitar - thats a real porn star moustache!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyrZW3kkkoc
Prefer this song....also from Metal Queen album
-

Veruca Salt.
And I thought you were going to say Lisa Dominique (or Gypsy Queen)
Oh no, now you've got me thinking about Marino The Band. Dreadful cack. At least those sisters in Gypsy Queen were cute.
And now I've remembered Madam X with Maxine and Roxy Petrucci (could they be related to... ? Nah.)
And The Great Kat. :(
Nooooo.................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-

Ditto.

Ditto.
I'm pretty sure I saw her headlining at the Marquee as well, but my memory may be failing there...
-
Errrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....
Blondie - Debby Harry!
How can she not be mentioned within the first page :S
-

Yeah - have memories of always running into Lisa D at the Marquee bar
Wasn't keen on her music though no matter how much Kerrang promoted it
Madam X did feature the 2 Petrucci sisters - Roxy ended up in Vixen.
No relation to Dream Theatre though
Amazing how many Canadian bands are Female fronted.....
Madam X's original singer was Sebastian Bach!
Click here for blackmail corner - too funny (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSqMqOySD94)
-
A few names that I forgot:
Human Waste Project
The Go-Gos
Jucifer
The Moon Seven Times
Blonde Redhead
The Slits
(...and while we're strolling down the section of Memory Lane dedicated to the 80s:)
Smashed Gladys - my ex-wife had some LPs by this band and my goodness am I glad (no pun intended) that she got custody of them. :)
-
and no one has even mentioned fluffly yet
-
Oh, and the Tairrie B bands:
Manhole/Tura Satana/My Ruin
-
only a new band, so hardly classic yet, but Noisettes aren't bad.
-
and of course there's Poison, Warrant, Pretty Boy Floyd, Motley Crue... (hey, i like glam, i'm allowed to take the piss!)
:D
-

was going to mention, but everybody seems to hate the Noisettes.
I, on the other hand, have seen them three times. (two of them were accidental, promise!)

Yeah, I first saw them at the NEC with muse, then I saw them at the zodiac (RIP, now the carling academy oxford), then I found them in one of the tents at reading. They were particularly impressive in the small environment of the Zodiac, but everyone on the muse and reading fest forums was slagging them off- I quite like them live and on album.

I'm really amazed that no-one has mentioned Lacuna Coil - I think Cristina Scabbia is one of the best looking women in music. Older bands that I have seen are:
Concrete Blonde - Johnette Napolitano
Fanny - the Millington sisters
Chicken Shack - the original lineup had Christine Perfect singing (before she married John McVie)
Renaissance - Annie Haslam has an amazing voice
All About Eve
Steeleye Span
Mamma Lion
Birtha
Pretenders
-
Amanda Palmer - Dresden Dolls
-
And from the punk days:
The Tourists
Siouxsie and the Banshees
X-Ray Specs
Plasmatics
Also in more of the pop world
Texas
-
Chiming in a bit late so most bands have been added already but I'd like to add one more:
The Little Willies featuring Norah Jones.
-
Amanda Palmer - Dresden Dolls
i thought i had said that one - tuns out i missed it!!
I wasnt sure about the dresden dolls at first but it all worked brilliantly when i was standing in a tent at last years reading - really grown on me since!!

I think they're brilliant actually.
Not usually into that sort of thing at all, but am a real fan of their stuff.
If anyone hasn't heard them:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Mlsg-QD6rI
-
Eurythmics (Annie Lennox)
Bjork (not rock, but probably my favourite female artist)
-
Concrete Blonde - Johnette Napolitano
All About Eve
Pretenders
Phil, thanks for adding those it saved me bothering
All about Eve was Julianne Regan (I'm still in love with her)
You all forgot about Janis Joplin (even though I did't like her voice)
-
skin - skunk anansie
-
I saw a band called Meldrum supporting BLS, the singer had some seriously nice tits and they did a good cover of walk.
What about The Runaways? Joan Jett, Lita Ford and a few more.
Transvision Vamp-remember them?
So no one mentioned Rockbitch? Hmmm.... 18+ only to google this bunch of ott performers who are banned from doing their full act here!!
-

Agreed, they are awful, interesting stage show though. I saw a docu' on a bbc freeveiw channel about them, the bass player could play ok though.
-
My band has a female singer, she's pretty good lot better than tonedeaf idiots that frequent the studios.
-
Yeah, my band too.
Its nice to actually have vocal range in a singer :)
Thanks Indy for recomending me btw, been meaning to say thanks for ages
-
Talking of tone deaf idiots, the Spice Girls have an album out soon apparently. I can hardly wait.I am so excited that I will have to concentrate on cataloging my cotton reel collection to contain myself.

I think I have a few reels of Sylko in various colours if you're looking to plug any gaps in the collection, Steve. All sensible offers considered.
