Title: This is what I'm looking for
Post by: Pale Rider on October 07, 2007, 08:21:20 PM
A quick question guys!
I'm looking for that throaty tone but with more low end: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gybZ5Qecx1c

Will the MM help me get close?

Thank you!

Depends what guitar it's going into, but i'd say Holy Diver or Rebel Yell for that!

It's for a future neck-through soloist style guitar with maple neck and maple or ash sides. For 80's Heavy Rock to Metal. Tightness and clarity are the 1st priority (along with tone ;))

Amp: Engl Powerball

Thanks for the replies guys!

Heh, it's a nice video indeed.

If you're putting them in something Les Paulish (LP, PRS Singlecut etc) the Holy Diver will be right on the money there - I have a set in an SE Singlecut and this is their home territory. As previous posters have said, Miracle Man will be too scooped.

Not sure where it is on the forum, but I've read that Cold Sweats work really well in neck-thrus.

It's going to be a bright guitar, so HDs should be good too.

I'd get a Cold Sweat or Holy Diver set for that kind of vibe.

Thank you for the advice guys!

All the HD clips really rock! They sound amazing.

Actually the EQ doesn't quite matters. I can adjust it from the amp easily. What I'm looking for is the tone texture. I like that hollow(?), deep(?), throaty sound. I don't know how to describe it, maybe it's from the scatterwinding so, maybe all the BKPs have it. All I can say is that I like it very much. It's like you engage the square modulation on a POD XT making your sound deeper with more low end.

I think I can hear it both in the HD and the MM clips (especially on the MM ones(???)) but maybe it's just me...

You can also hear it in the opening chords of the Miracle Man song too (to have an idea what I'm talking about), but Zakk there maybe gets it with effects?

Sorry for all these confusing descriptions...maybe it's just in my head or something :P

Cheers!

I have to agree with the choice of the Holy Diver. We do this song the Gotthard way in our set and i always use my HD les paul for it. Fat 80's rock tone. Great band Gotthard. I like their version of the Mighty Quinn as well.
