So does anyone here have one? I had one for a while and I can't remember how good it really was, I'm considering getting one of those modified ones off the adadepot as theyre pretty cheap. I know rack gear is like soooo totally 1980s but it is very flexable.
I have tried many amps and they nearly all sound like garbage to be sure, maybe Rack gear truely is the way to go, at least until I can afford a splawn ;)
I guess another alternative is the marshall JMP1 but I've heard really bad things about these.

Many years ago I tried both of these, however they both went straight back - I found them too muddy and I just couldn't get a tight sound out of them. I may be misrepresenting the ADA cos that really did go straight back after a day! :(

I want one of the stompbox flangers so bad, it makes my groin tingle!

The ADA MP1 is great (i have over a half dozen of them, along with Soldano, Engl, Rocktron and Lee Jackson units)
There are a number of modified versions available and these are worth checking out - see http://www.Adadepot.com
One major upgrade available is the upgraded transformer (MDRT) and this suppies a much better headroom for the unit and the result is supposed to be so much better
The Marshall JMP1 is ok-ish but I would advise looking out for a Rocktron Pirhana instead - does the same thing but has a much higher voltage to the valve plates and works a lot more like an amp
Also it has a lot more control over the midrange frequencies
Best of all - it has knobs - just like a real amp - highly recommended
I have 2 of these - 1 is spare & I should list it in seconds out

Remember the ada stuff from when I first started playing..and then buying guitar mags
Those rocktron things how much are they second hand

I have 2, and they're brilliant :) I had planned on having one modded for high gain stuff, and one for cleans, but there is plenty of gain on them, so i only modded the clean one... Hook it up with some of it's inbuilt Chorus, and you've got a really nice lead tone too :)
As Jonathon said, the MDRT upgrade is the best thing you can give one- that's the only thing i've done to my high-gain unit, and it made a great unit even better :)
Never played a JMP-1 myself, but i've been lead to believe that they're not as good, but can't say myself :)

I have the MP1 3TM as my high gain and have to say it's brilliant
It has an extra valve and is similar to the units Paul Gilbert used to have that had been modified
The guy that did the MDRT (Machinator) rebuilt my ADA power amp too.
Marshall JMP1s are ok but a bit limited and a touch bland.
I tried one next to the Pirhana and the Pirhana sounded more real , behaved much more like an amp and had knobs on to control it
Was a lot more expensive too (I paid nearly £800 while the JMP1 was only about £500 at the time)
It was so good I bought a second one so I could have one aht home and one at work- I'll sell the spare for £395
Here it is in an out of date piccy of the rack of doom- second from the top
I Also have an Engl and Soldano preamp in here now and am using a Marshall power amp

Hey - I'm as much of a tone junkie as the rest of the guys on here.
I just use having a guitar business as a front so I can convince my g/f that I NEED all this stuff......
But I think she's onto my little scheme

I remember the ADA preamps to sound really great from back in the day. Never owned one but wouldn't mind picking one up on the cheap.
-
Nice rack..am jealous

how did the mp-1 sound with that Peavey poweramp when you had it jonathan?
I was thinking of an mp-1 to go with my classic 50/50...

Absolute rubbish, so i'd suggest selling the 50/50 to me for a very cheap price, and we'll say no more about it
I'm fed up of using amp heads for poweramps!

She drives to pick up your stuff..I see why you married her...so how many shoes does that cost you

Whoaaaaaaaaa...
Yeah I have an MP-1... again! Sold my old one for drugs money back in the day, got one off ebay for next to nothing and it's really worth it.
So many different thrashy tones availible! I love it, all over again!!!
It's actually really good for the 7string/drop tuned, Bb stuff because the notes have so much bite, they are almost completely seperate from each other in chords! Realy hi-fi. And single note, high speed picked stuff just jumps out!
Great stuff for the cash!

Hey its nice to see the ADA is still getting some love haha.
I had a 3 tube mod which was pretty good I think maybe it had too much gain perhaps and that ruined the clean channel, but the solid state clean is pretty nice anyway so no worries. ada depot now do a Ultra 3 trube mod I wonder what this is like hmmm.
I have a fender HM guitar from the 80s with Rebel Yells and I think the ADA would go with it a treat, total 80s heaven hehe.
Has anyone ever used the TC Electronics G Sharp unit, as this is on my wish list too. I used to have a Lexicon Mp1 which was not bad.
-
I actually prefered the sound of the MP-1 through JCM900 fx loop. I got a great tone that way. Ended up getting rid of the marshall for the Peavey poweramp but wasn't too impressed with it. ended up selling it all and getting a Laney.
I really liked the sound of the MP-1 direct into recording devices though. It sounded awesome.

^agreed, thats how I used to use mine, through my powerball or my dsl - great tones
