HI,
I've just replaced the 5 way switch in a friend's Squire Strat Affinity. The original switch had started cr@pping out like the cheap switches do.
I bought one of the Oak switches off WD (http://www.wdmusic.co.uk/product/5_WAY_LEVER_SWITCH_FOR_STRAT%AE_WDE5) & followed this wiring diagram (http://www.fender.com/support/diagrams/pdfs/70SSTRAT/SD0137000APg2.pdf) off the Fender site.
Right then... now on to my problem. The selector works in all positions & selects the correct pickup(s), but there a click & the sound drops out for a fraction of a second whilst switching.
Any thoughts? I'm sure it's something obvious.. But I thought I best check before I take it to bits again.
Cheers,
Simon
EDIT: I just tried using the volume pot. that also as a slight noise when turning it & the sound also drops out for a fraction.

Any ideas guys? I've had no responce over on the project guitar forum either :( Have I royally screwed this?

just check everything you have done - all the solder joints and earth connections.
then get a multimeter and check all the connections on the switch work as they should - do you have continuity on the correct tags in the correct position??
If thats ok check the pots are all working and havnt been overheated
Personally i would get frustrated then rip it all out and start again but i tend to have pots and switches hanging around so thats not a problem- actually that doesnt happen as much anymore but i know what its like!!

Cheers Wez,
I'll check it over tonight. It's just a bit frustrating because all I did was change the switch. I didn't even touch the pots. It's the loss of signal when selecting a different pickup that's confusing me like. Maybe something's come loose when I've flipped the scratch plate back over.

it wasnt really the best help ever was it!! but its hard to diagnose these things over the internet. Its either one dodgy connection or one dodgy part - just got to find it!!

Problem solved. I knew it'd be something daft... and it was. I'd tested the guitar just straight through my mixing desk... Turns out I had the phantom power turned on. Turned that off & the guitars works perfectly.
