Title: Places to try out amps in malmesbury area
Post by: maverickf1jockey on October 14, 2007, 02:38:28 PM
I really want to try out some amps but I don't know of anywhere with a decent selection. They only really consistently stock Marshall amps around here and that isn't what I'm after. I am interested by the Orange Rocker 30 but need to find out if it needs a bit more kick to it before I spend all my cash.
I'm after a valve head (preferably low wattage) with a good sound; hopefully channel switching and an fx loop (not essential as I have a volume control and I'm not an fx whore). Lower gain levels are not going to be the death of the amp but I do like a high gain sound (as in Steve Vai not Slipknot) and do not own a decent distortion pedal as of yet.
If you are to recommend a lower gain amp please recommend some pedals to try it out with so that I don't come away with a poor impression of the amp because it does not automatically suit my requirements.
I'll set a budget of £500 for the head, although this is flexible, and I don't want to have to travel too far as I am too young to drive and so would have to get a lift from my parents and that is definitely not going to extend too far.

perhaps this thread is best closed. I have found some places which ought to stock the stuff I'm after (went through distributor's website)

Would always be a plus to go to a larger shop if you can't find what you want.
Even if it costs you a £30 train fare
