I'm looking to replace my 5150 II, it's served me well, but i want something new
I only have the gain on half (5), and play punk/hardcore with an SG w/ceramic warpig
I've heard plenty on good things about the mark iv on harmony central etc, but you know, i prefer this place
So yeah, does anyone own one, does it sound like it'd be good for me?
Any other suggestions?

Anyone hard of these?

Never heard of those Diamond amps - oh no another player on a saturated market 8)
If you look for something that gives you that hi-gain heaven like the 5150 but still has decent cleans, I can recommend the Diezel Einstein (which I own myself). If you go for the Einstein, take the 100W version as it costs not much more but is much more versatile - you can even mix tube types pair wise.
Another great amp in terms of mega versatility would be the Egnater MOD50, although I have many amps already, that might be another one to fall for ...
This is all personal view. I dislike MESA amps because they are difficult to dial in. I prefer amps that sound great with all pots at noon and then sound good however you set them.
-
So, with the Einstein you can put in 2 6L6's and 2 EL34's?
That sounds mint!
The egnaters, i've been trying to phone them for a while now, but they never pick up!!!!
But there is a nice Egnater amp in america on ebay at the moment :D
What's the best usa to uk power converter for an amp?

Yep, on Eini you can mix anything like EL34s with 6L6s, KT66/77/88, 5881, etc.
Where is that Egnater on ebay? I can't find one :(

The Diamond amps are used by a chap called Rusty Cooley. From what I hear they're okay but a little fizzy in the gain. I own a 60Watt Elmwood Modena amp which has great tone across the board. Check out the video clips for an idea of the immediate sound and gain.

Yeah man those are awesome, got this kinda darkness to them and still enough grain to rock ... how are those cutting through in a band?
-
I heard the clips on the site by Todd Duane and was amazed how cool the sounded straight out of the box. One of the things that I hate is popping onto an amp site and the samples are produced to the 9s. I had a Powerball before and this 60/30W cuts like a knife I can even put the mids right up and keep the tone in a good place. I still want a splawn Nitro though :D .
-
I used a Mark IV for recording a CD with my previous band (stuck through a Marshall cab) and I couldn't find one tone that didn't sound band. It just does anything you want it too. Expensive kit, but well worth it in my opinion. I still want one after all these years. Really look into one and try it out if you can.

I own a mk IV-there are two versions...A and B-mine is a B-extremely flexible amp-3 channels-the lead channel is bad ass,as is the clean-some folks dont care for channel 2, but I dig it(those who don't do not play it loud enough IMO)-the IV has SIMUL CLASS-can run 6l6 and el-34...WARNING-takes some tweaking..serious tweaking..but it is well worth it-it is a high gain amp-can run class A and a/b-has "tweed" switch, which acts as a variac-high gain at low volumes..slave out-I LOVE the effects loop and its versatility-I run it stereo-out of my IV loop into a boogie power amp

Ah, I don't know about the TOLs. I was talking about a MOD50, this is the one where you can exchange preamp modules. AFAIK they are flexible voltage, so you can change it on the amp depending on where you are. They have 12 weeks waiting time I think.
-
Yeah, i saw the thread/videos, they look amazing! But i bet the TOL's don't sound half bad too eh
I'm just craving something a little more handmade
Anyone know much about the soldano hot rod 50's?
-
given that you only play with gain on 5, you might want to check out Matamp. From what I'#ve read here and elsewhere, you'd be best off calling them to discuss possibilities - they'll customise everything for you, if you want!
Probably not custom/different enough for you, but have you checked out the new Line 6 bognor amp?

i always hear good things about the mark IV, never been able to try one, though. For the price they go for here, though, I'd rather buy, I dunno, the duchy of cornwall or something.
I just don't see why I should pay over £2000 for one when they go for around $2000 in the US.
-
OUCH$$$-got mine used/mint for 1200 USD-yep..see your point!

Buy one in the US for $2,000, ship it here, pay customs and VAT, then you know why

well not really, it'd still be much cheaper even with shipping, customs and VAT.
you should pick one up used for much cheaper than $2k
-
Well, i'm actually going to america next tuesday :)
So i need to know about good power converters that can run american amps in the uk safely
I've already rang matamp too! They were talking about me using pedels which i really don't want to do, i was asking for another pre amp valve, we were getting nowere

the problem of course with that is that US stores aren't allowed to ship to the UK, and a trip to the US would likely cost much more than any savings...
Of course, if you're going anyway, that's a different matter.
I thought there was a big backlog on mark IV's, though? I know someone on another forum had to wait a month or two for one.
EDIT: after reading heavier than hell's post, I just realised I totally misunderstood what you meant.
Please tell me how $200 shipping, 17.5% VAT, and about 3% customs would more than double the price.

Right, so i've narrowed it down to (i think).......
A mesa mark iv or a ENGL Blackmore
Although i am looking for a one trick wonder, i want the best sounding overdrive money can buy, even if it means getting an uberschall
Then again, i'd love a Egnater mod50 if they only got back to me
Advice?
