Ok post your favorite and heaviest sounding amps here, i mean the kind of heavy that makes it feel like the guitar is coming out and smashing you with a wall of tone and you cant escape it.
The 2 Heaviest amps ive owned/played would have to be...
My Current amp a Randall Warhead (First version) ($550)
And a Marshall Valvestate 8100 ($250 head)
-
Peavey 5150?
-
blues junior?
-
peavey rockmaster preamp (US$200) + 6l6 or 6550 power amp ($200-$500)
believe me :D
unbelievably tight and massive, especially with the miracle man!
the head version is supposed to be the peavey ultra plus, which costs about U$400 on ebay
i tried it with a mesa 50/50 in stereo with 2 mesa 1x12 cabs and it RAPED a dual rectalfire thru randall 4x12 cab in every way
now i'm plugging it into a brazilian handmade mini power amp head with 2 x 6550's
-
See my sig for what I do with my 5150-II
Got it second hand, including 5150 4x12 cab, and also bought an ISP decimator prorackG all for juat about £1000, but in the US, you'd be getting it a lot cheaper than that, so probably nearer $1000, tbh.

Havn't played that many hugely high gain amps but the Engl Fireball is pretty damn heavy and i think it's in that price range.
-
ampeg v-4
SHHHH though, its a secret.
-
ENGL Savage 60.
700 euro off ebay.
probably not as "heavy" as the fireball, but still plenty heavy for me.
Love it to DEATH :guitar4:
-
I had an Ampeg 'Lee Jackson' head that was a seriously angry amp. Apparently Zack Wylde used one to record much of Ozzy's No More Tears album.

Ok,
HEAVY AND LOUD
Basically you need a high output poweramp which stays clean as long as possible w/o distorting too much, typically a 100w 6L6 based amp like the Peavey Deuce or the Fender Dual Showman Head or offcourse an Ampeg V4, full stacks obviously. Focus your clean sound right on the heavy mids.
Now you begin to pile overdrive/distortion cirquits, use high quality stomboxes preferably(most contain two OD/D cirquits), two stompboxes would be enough(distortion always after overdrive). Add a noisegate in the loop. If you have set this up try not to knock yourself unconsious while palmmuting :wallbash:
AFAIK this is the only way to get that uber loud death metal soundwall. If you play with 2 guitarists in your band, be gentle to the other guitarist, especially when his new engl suddenly sound dark and mushy if at all noticable. :P
There is also the option of going solid which i did after frying a small fortune worth of tubes. I found the rathamp 130 head to be the loudest sounding solid state amp ever in this respect.
Probably there are some new amps i didnt try out which would be even better then the old stuff i mentioned.

i almost bought a vl1002 half stack for 450, but a lot people said it had a lot of reliability problems, so i ended paying 4x the price for a framus cobra stack :(

5150
-
5150
JCM800
used Soldano Avenger
-
Laney TI signature head?
They are a one trick pony, but when that trick is bone crushing high gain...
-
JCM800
Really not a very heavy amp without some serious modification, or a beastly pedal in front i wouldn't have said :?

zakk also has a beastly overdrive, and kerry king has a beastly e.q.

I've used a JCM800 (stock, no pedals) and a set of Warpigs in a Les Paul live before - turned up, that thing is damn heavy as its very middy, clean and open.
Heaviness isn't all about distortion kids ;). I find distortion tends to focus a sound.
(unless you are in a br00tal kvlt)

But the JCM 800 is a brilliant cornerstone of a good sound
Ok - put a pedal or EQ in front of it or in the lop and add a noise gate , but you get to sculpt the tone that comes out and you have the chance for a few options just by changing a pedal.
And so many companies have made it their business to make pedals that match the Marshall really well.
You could see it as a strength rather than a weakness

With a boost and good cab, Laney GH50Ls can get pretty heavy - I want to try one with an Orange as I hear they make everything sound even bigger.

I think I was taken a little out of context. Just saying the heaviest sound I've had is thru that rig. Normally I boost the shite out of my 800 with a Big D to focus the tone for metal!
