Title: Question of wiring a pedal ghetto style
Post by: Shag101 on October 19, 2007, 02:11:44 PM
Hi All,

I have a DOD chorus pedal that has the 1/8" power plug input or the 9v battery input.
Here's the issue.  To use the 1/8" power supply input, the pedal says you need a 10v power supply.  I do not have one, nor wish to buy one.

I do have several 9v power supplies with the standard tip (boss pedal style)
Question: Can I cut the plastic piece off the red and black wires that connect to the 9v battery and hard wire a 9v power supply to it?  (Solid black on power supply to red wire on pedal and black/white wire on power supply to solid black on pedal)

thanks
Mr Cheapie  :P

nope

all my 9v's have the boss pedal style tip.

i could cut one and attach a 1/8" tip but it would be a 9v when the pedal calls for a 10v.

thanks

Gather round as Mr Mark schools you in getting ghetto on your fx.

What to do is find an adaptor that daisy chains your 9V Boss style effects, should be a female connector. Snip this bad boy so you have a connector end and an end where you expose 2 wires, one should be red and the other black/bare.

Now open up your fx box and find the battery clip. Cut the clip part off and strip the wires, a red and a black usually. Now bodge the two reds together and the black with the bare. Give a little bit of solder to hold them together and tape them up for good measure. Now you just have to thread the cable out of the fx box and onto a power supply.

To help illustrate this i present to  you my awesome and jaw dropping pain skillz, and a photo of my pimped Big Muff.

Booya (ignore the mess of my living room floor, was doing some soldering...)

hahahahahahah

Nice

So basically i should be fine if i just wire it straight to the 9v power supply, if i'm even cheaper and dont want to buy a "adaptor that daisy chains your 9V Boss style effects, should be a female connector."

i just wont have the option to disconnect the power supply as easy as your idea...

thanks

Yeah that should work, 9V into the battery will make it a happy effect. The only problem you will have is that you will have a pedal almost permanently connected to a power supply. Not idea unless you have a static pedal board.

I'm sure you can pick up a 'proper' version of my mod, but I had the bits lying around and just went for it.

cool thanks

i found something that has both a female tip with the proper 9v adapter for it.  i will rip it apart and transfer it to the 9v battery wires on my pedal.  thanks again!!!!
