Any Jackson US neckthru players?
« on: October 30, 2007, 06:31:25 PM »
Guys,

Been following many threads about the Painkiller and the Miracle Man lately. I bought the MM before the PK was released thinking about try a PK in my Jackson death angel (custom odd jackson guitar) specs are as exactely as the RR1 stock one with alder neckthru body with ebony fretboard. It's like kelly/solist soundwise very solid...asking you guys before even bother Tim  :D . Nowdays i have a Miracle Man in and it's sounds cool but need some more mids i think.

Good match?, difference between theese two pickups? feel free two discuss what you have in your jacksons

/E

(I already have a Nailbomb in my Jackson RR1 and it crunches so great and is a perfect match for that guitar, awesome pinch harmonics and the possibillity to clean up fast is awesome..Anyone that have a RR1 should try this combination...since it's hard to find a great match to this guitar)

Yep, I reckon Painkiller would work well.

FWIW, I have Holy Divers in my RR-1T (they're absolutely fantastic, transformed that guitar into one of my favourites)
& a Holy Diver bridge in my all mahogany Kelly

Also have two 80s neck-thru Charvels - one with a Painkiller set, the other with a Holy Diver bridge/Trilogy neck.

If I get another Jackson (I'd kill for a KV2) it will probably get a Painkiller bridge/Cold Sweat neck.  If I got two more, the second one would get another (yes, you guessed it :)) Holy Diver set...

Death Angel? nice :) not many people have one of those :)
BKPs: HD, MM, NB, PK, CS, Ab (b&n); Am (b only); VHII, Tril (n only); IT, Slow, Sult (m&n)

I own a white pinstriped RR1  :D  My favorite guitar. But I will soon sell her because I need the money for my custom guitar project. It's hard to part ways

If I stay with the RR1 I will use a Painkiller. I have grown tired of the Miracle Man on my RR1... funny thing is that the Cold Sweat is always fun to play with.

TBH I dont think the neck thru changes things much. Maybe more low modes over set or bolt on, but I've never found it to be a significant effect *shrugs*

Anyway, more mids than a MM? Assuming you want to stay ceramic and all-metal with a similar (i.e. not silly) level of power: painkiller.

Warpigs also have more mids, though, if you're OK with the extra power and dont want to go to the mid extreme of the PK (it does have a LOT of mids: more than your nailbomb by a fair way!). The WPs have a balanced, thick crunchy mid. Fits in there very snugly between the monster bass and the biting, saturated highs.

I have a warpig in a jackson DX1: old top end MIJ, maple/basswood, rosewood FB soloist style. Perfect for that guitar: from what you'v asked for here, you'd love it.

I also have an ebony board guitar: http://www.legraguitars.co.uk/mdv602.htm

C-Pig/cold sweat. Its my Number One. The highs and lows come out in this guitar much more. The lows hammer, the mids grind and the highs scream.

My painkillers are in a basswood/maple/rosewood Dean Z. The low end is tight and punchy, the mids are articulate, very forward and very crunching and the highs have a great bite to them. Great if you want a mid-oriented, crunchy tone that also lacks nothing in the lows and the highs. Did I mention its very, very tight too?

RR1 is the white with black pinstripes on the bevels

MM after playing with it 1 year and a half... bothers me. I want something tighter and with more Mids. That's why I want a Painkiller

Painkiller = More mids, Tighter and much more versatil than a MM on the bridge.

MM bridge = one trick pony that you can easily get tired of.

don't get me wrong... MM KICKS ASS but... I am not playing Metallica forever.

Thrash, trad, doom, some death metal.  I like slow heavy grinding riffs & palm muted chugging, also play a LOT of clean intros/interludes/ballads etc.  I guess my biggest playing/songwriting influences are: Obituary, My Dying Bride, Opeth, Crowbar, Exodus, Godflesh, Maiden, Rush.

Interestingly, I also have an Engl Savage - got it a few months ago.   Have had a Mesa Single Rectifier as my main amp since 2001, still have that too.  I use  BBE 482 in the FX loop.

Yeah the PK is probably the best BK for that sound. Not nearly as fizzy and brittle, though ;)
