hey,
i have the piledriver bridge with the yardbird neck.
i certainly dont play any metal, i play blues and other things like Radiohead, Hendrix, and jazz. on clean, the piledriver has a very punchy attack - there are a lot of elements of a contempary telecaster bridge pickup. there is definite twang. with the volume on full, and with strong stumming, the piledriver breaks up brilliantly and has quite a dirty grunt. its great.
i use the marshall shredmaster, and the tone is absolutly immense. it can do anything.
the yardbird is a very coherent, substantial and warm pickup. the clean sounds are fantastic, its my favourite feature on my telecaster. the definition between strings is perfect, i consider this to be the best neck pickup money can buy to be honest!
these pickups are great for jazz, on the middle pickup selection, these two pickups just seem to do something together - theres no horrible shirll that ive found in too many telecaster on the middle p'up selection. its full and smooth, and very glassy.
there is no volume drop with this combination. if you read the stats for both pickups you will notice that the piledriver is a much more powerful pickup, and this is definitly noticable when you play. however there is no discouraging volume drop between the two at all. thats if you set them up right i guess.
