Best one-stop guitar store on Manhattan?
« on: December 19, 2007, 08:14:17 PM »
Hey, seeing as there are some New Yorkers on this forum, I thought I'd ask for some advice regarding guitar/music stores on Manhattan.

I'm going to South America with my wife for a couple of weeks and on the way back we're staying in NYC for 2 days (Jan 18th & 19th). It's our first time there, so I guess we'll spend most of our time doing the usual touristy things. BUT, I'll try to sneak in a couple of hours to look at some guitar stuff :) Hey, if she gets to shop for clothes...

Basically, I'm looking for a good selection, so that I'd have lots of different stuff to try out. So I'm guessing one of the big chains? Our hotel is near Times sq. Thanks for any pointers!

There's always the warranty / customs issues etc if I do decide to buy something and bring it home with me. But some of the stuff is so cheap compared to Europe that I don't know if I can resist ;) The guitar store close to me sells the BBE Sonic Stomp for 170e (that's almost $220) and a quick search on the intarwebs told me I can't get one for about $100 in the US. Let's see.

Actually, the sonic stomp's only 99e if I order it from Germany. Anyways, any tips are appreciated! ;)

If you want to see the most boutique/vintage stuff in the world, make 30th St Guitars a definite stop:

Ludlow St Guitars is a good shop, and a BK retailer, as well.

48th St ("Music Row") has a bunch of retail shops, as well as the uber-pretentious and over-rated Rudy's Music.

And if you're up for a pint one evening, we can plan a link up!!
