will the calibrated set of mules in this particular guitar give me versatility?

I like to play metal, hard rock, blues and some jazzy fusions

You're asking alot of any pickup to do all that.  The Mule excels at cleans through to rock - it will do metal, but not with the authority of a Nailbomb for instance.

You might be better off with a hot-PAF type of pickup like the Black Dog - it'll handle gain better, but still has it's sonic footprint firmly in the 'PAF' camp.

thanks for your reply

if it can do almost everything I listed and can handle metal, then it is perfect  :)

I'm aware it won't give me a very authorative metal tone, but if it is really that versatil to give you a convincing metal sound and all of the vintage tone at the same time... then this pickup would fit the bill.

I'd still go with the Mule - i Know Tim used it for his Ozzy stuff on occasion, and _tom_ gets some very good metal sounds out of his LP with mules - it's a real workhorse by all accounts ; can't wait to get my hands on a set!

Also --- the ebony board on the LP will give a bit more snap to the attack that will help achieving a good metal sound.

Sorry to re-use that old cliche, but i find my set are are "a great all rounder".

The only limitation (as far as you may be concerned ) is the Metal sounds. I still thing they could wade into a band mix and 'rock out' - but it would be more dependant on picking pressure and dynamics to push the front end of the amp.

The advice given in previous posts reads good to me.

happy hunting !
