I picked my guitar up today from the tech shop (Gibson Les Paul Classic), with my brand spanking new calibrated set of zebra Emeralds.

After driving home like a maniac I plugged in and ..... Wow!

The Tone is beautiful. Warm but defined. Plenty of lower end and mids ... and it looks like leads are going to be a joy to play on both bridge and neck.

The sound I'm getting now is a quantum leap ... up ... from my old pup's (Gibson 496R/500T)

It's safe to say I'm delighted with my (first) set of BKP's :D

Does anyone have any advice on how to make reasonable recordings, so I can post clips on the forum?

Sounds good! Just wondering, you mentioned the low end and mids, but what's the treble content like? Could you describe how they compare with the old Gibson pickups?

Sorry to be a pain, I'm keen to know more about the Emeralds but, as discussed elsewhere, there's not a lot of info on the forum about how they compare/differ from other models.

I've been reading the forum for a few months now thinking about getting some bkp. I havent quite decided yet been toing and froing between mules/blackdogs or some combination of. I'm after that classic rock sound.

If you can post any clips it would be great. The clips on the forum are biased on the mules/blackdog front as there are so many and all recorded really well with some decent amps so they sound great.

What colour is your classic? I've got a LP classic as well (vintage sunburst). Not sure what pickup colour (covered or not and then which type) to go for. If you have pictures of the zebras that would be great.

The best description I can give for the treble is - balanced. It's not sharp and it's certainly not dull. Sorry I can't be of more help but the tone seems to be 'just right' in that respect.

In comparison to the old Gibson pup's the tone is a lot less harsh. The 500T in particular took no prisoners - which was ok for metal/thrash etc but not for classic rock/blues.

The main thing that was very apparent was the clarity, when I hit a dirty open or bar chord. Every note can be heard and it sounds warm.

The 500T just couldn't do that.

Once I can rig up some means of producing an MP3 it'll be much more help.

Gizmo:

My LP Classic is Bullion in colour. It was a special for 2000, I think. It's not the normal goldtop, which can have a greenish tinge. It's much more of a solid gold colour.

I'll get a decent pic of it with the new zebra covers soon.

Glad to hear you like them, im really looking forward to hearing some decent clean clips. Im kind of considering to add an Emerald to my two mules in my 3 pickup custom, but want to be very sure the mids of the Emerald fit the Mules' signature.
