Terrible squeal w/ wah between guitar & digital amp mode
« on: December 09, 2007, 01:13:47 AM »
When I put my standard Dunlop wah pedal (stock JH-1, no true bypass, alas) in between my guitar and GarageBand on my Mac mini, with the wah clicked on there's this weird high pitched squeal (that changed slightly depending on how one rocked the wah pedal, but didn't seem to reflect any sound coming off the guitar). With the wah clicked off, the signal came through fine, as normal.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the wah pedal per se -- the effect seems much like the problem described on this page: http://en.allexperts.com/q/Guitar-General-649/Effects.htm
This makes me wonder if there is indeed some weird interaction between the signal coming out of the wah pedal and GarageBand's digital amp sims?

Anyone else have any experience with putting a wah pedal in front of digital amp models?

It occurs to me as I'm writing that I wonder if sticking a pedal with a line buffer -- I've got a Boss TU-2 that would do the job -- either before or after the wah would help? (Haven't tried yet, obviously, and I may be completely with this guess, since I don't really understand the electronics involved! :))
