A short example of Emerald clean sound.

Info as follows.

Guitar: Gibson Les Paul Classic
BKP: Emerald calibrated set
Recording gear: Boss BR-900, using a modifed 'JC CLEAN' patch. No revereb, a touch of chorus.

I started on the rhythm pup and cycle through to treble for each segment. The last part is on the rhythm pup.

Playing is my usual ... basic :)

Nice clip, it does have a nice ring to it, not too dark, very nice. Not comparable to the Mules though, the mule is a PAF and this is not IMO.

PS: grats on the LP, sounds like you picked a good one out of the litter!

Sounds good, neck isn't for me I think; I like a dark, round tone, if I want jangle I'll use a bridge pickup. Awesome none the less. The bridge is sexy.

It's good but is thier any way to hear it without the fx? would LOVE to hear some clips with no FX, nice little tune there.

^I can agree on that. I prefer my cleans to not be disguised by effects. Really good tones of course, but maybe we could have a clip without chorus and with a little reverb instead?

I'll see if I can get a clip with just reverb up and running tonight, using the same chords, for comparison.

The Emeralds aren't a straight PAF sound and I don't think they were really designed to be that way. If I had to put a label on that, I would say that they are very suited for a 70's Classic Rock sound.

I'll hopefully have a clip up shortly, using a backing track, to show the vintage 70's aspect of the pup's.

Great effort Machinehead, no need to rush though, not on my account at least.

I would personally prefer clean without reverb, unless you think it would sound too naked without offcourse.

I've used Roland/Boss gear for so long, that feels like such an alien suggestion - but I'll see what I can do.

Interesting observation Henk. Although you have said that the Mule and Emerald are not comparable, I am driven by curiosity ( as a Mule and SM owner who has not had a chance to plug either in for a while ) - to enquire what for you are the characteristic and tonal differences between the Mules and the Emeralds as we heard here ?

Meanwhile Machinehead, thanks for adding that very tasteful and tonefull clip. You chose a very melodic and enjoyable way to present them.

I am certainly impressed by the Emeralds - and would have been very tempted to fit them to my own Les Paul Standard if starting again with BKPs, hence my question to Henk ( and indeed anybody else who wishes to comment ).
