Looking for some suggestions on my next set of BKP's
« on: December 23, 2007, 09:19:51 AM »
Ok, first post here, and i thought i'd dive right in, head first, with the most annoying, standard question of all... But with a twist ;)

I have two Epi LP's, one already fitted with a set of MM's, the second fitted with some EMG's.
Now, i'm looking to replace the EMG's (nice for metal, but no warmth/feeling at all), but i have no idea what to go for exactly, as i like my MM's, but they're not 100% what i'm looking for.
I'm looking for a set/combo that would work for metal and punk mostly, but that can do some minor clean guitar parts as well.
As a side note. i'm using 3 different amps (H&K Statesman dual 20, a Marshall DSL 401, and a Mesa/Boogie Mark 4 combo), so i can get a wide variety of sound from that, i just need some nice pickups to add the finishing touch to it.

Sooooo.... Any ideas  ?

Assuming you want something other than a MM I would say that you may just like a CS or even a WP.
Don't be afraid of less powerful gear such as a VHII.

If you are unsure after more posts I suggest you ask Tim.
I too use chicken as a measurement.

It's different from what you're used to but you might like some Crawlers. My Yamaha SG with Crawlers sounds awesome on a DSL401. And if you look on the H&K site, you'll find Geoff Whitehorn playing on the Statesman.

I'd get VH II, Holydiver, CS, or even Warpig for bridge, and something like CS neck.

OT: How's the Statesman? I've been planning to get one (20 W) sooner or later?

Ok, i'll be checking some of these recommendations out after christmas, thanks for the input so far guys  :good:
Any more input is welcome of course *the more opinions i get, the better ;) *, and i might indeed ask Tim if really can't decide.
But i'll wait with that until after christmas.

@ Iron Horse  : i personally love the statesman, it's a nice versatile little amp, loud enough to play a fairly big pub/cafe without micing it to a PA, and it's really well suited for stuff like rock(& roll), metal, punk, blues.
I'd definately recommend at least trying one out at some point.
I only played mine once, for like 10 minutes, and i just bought it on the spot, together with my first set of BKP's

I'd say Nailbombs would do what you describe and they have the midrange poke too.  The Miracle Man was too scooped for my tastes and I'd imagine it would be a poor choice for punk.  If I was playing oldschool thrash however, it would be my no.1 choice.

Ok, after some deliberation (and consulting Tim, whom i'd like to thank once again for the recommendations), i've decided i'm gonna go for a Crawler in the neck, and a Rebel Yell in the bridge *with burnt chrome covers, YAY    *
I'd like to thank all you folks who came in with suggestions, i really appreciate it PDT_015
