Tapping

Anyone got any tips for tapping? Does lower action make tapping easier?

I have to play a 4 finger tap across 3 strings on the 15th-21st frets on the DGB strings and I am finding it quite hard to get it smooth and getting each note to ring out.

Cheers

I would imagine lower action would make quite a difference, as would quite a gainy signal.

Tapping is very difficult with too much gain.  If you listen to VH or Vai - they dont use that much gain at all.  If you do you'll end up with loads of harmonics and bleed from other strings or your fingering hand that you dont want - even if you're technique is pretty good.

My advice would be play clean to a metronome - no matter how slow to start with - increase the speed and add the gain when your technique is solid.

I had this problem; i played along to Guitar Pro - which you can dowload for free of the net.  It has a built in speed function which increases the loop speed each time - it did wonders for my technique (but it took me like 2-3 months!)
