Yet another "Which ones should I buy?"
« on: January 24, 2008, 03:47:49 AM »
Hello all!   First off, I found you guys here from reading the galleries of guitars at Warmoth.  A few people there said they put in Bare Knuckles... I had to come and check them out for myself--now I want some of my own.

The guitar:
Ibanez RG350DX
Wizard II neck
Neck Material: 3-piece maple
Body: Basswood
24 Jumbo frets
Bound Rosewood Fingerboard
Edge III tremolo bridge
Neck Pickup: IBZ INF3 (Humbucker)
Middle Pickup: IBZ INFS3 (Single Coil)
Bridge Pickup: IBZ INF4 (Humbucker)

I'm looking for some wicked shredding solos mostly.  I like the way some put it in another thread "Think Top Gun Anthem, only heavier," to which the reply was Cold Sweat.  I'd also like to be able to play fast muted style rythms on it... A nice gallop type thing--heavy, but tight sounding... I'm thinking of the rythm for Hold at all Costs, right at "May the good lord strike me down," off of Iced Earth's Glorious Burden...  I'm looking for a strong pinch harmonic too, if the pickup matters at all for that.

So, based off other recommendations here, I'm thinking Cold Sweat for neck and Miracle Man for Bridge.  Agree?  Disagree?  Other recommendations? Warpig? Nailbomb?

As far as that Middle Single Coil, I'm thinking Irish Tour, or Trilogy, simply as those are the two associated with the hotter humbuckers in the HSS packages for sale here.  I'd really appreciate some input here.

And, a few more questions...

Will there be volume differences between pickups of different resistances?

Does anyone have any experiance ordering from U.S. here?  Does it go smoothly?  I guess I've never ordered overseas before, what kind of costs are there involved?

In the HSS Section, they say this: For players whose choice of guitar is the humbucker/single/single format, we have developed a range of specific sets designed to produce a balanced and versatile pallette of humbucker and single coil tones.
Does this matter?  Should I ask for a set designed for HSH when ordering?

And finally, for an RG, I would want the short leg option, right?

Thanks for any responses!  You guys are great!  (Even if nobody responds to me... There's so much input here already...Thanks!)

Hi there mate, welcome to the forum :)

The MM/CS set sounds pretty spot-on for you, though I reckon you might want to have a look at the Painkiller bridge pickup as well. The Nailbomb is definitely worth checking out, but I'm not so sure the Warpig would be the best choice.

I urge you to email Tim and find out what his suggestion would be - he knows his pickups better than anyone else, and always seems to make the right recommendation. Think you'll find he knows a thing or two about Iced Earth as well ;). Remember that there are all sorts of modifications he can make to tailor the pickup to your taste. (e.g I have a ceramic Nailbomb in my PGM)

I haven't tried any of the BK singles so I can't advise you on them I'm afraid.

Good luck finding your perfect pickups!

Thanks for the advice... I'll certainly have to send Tim an email and see what he thinks.

Just another bump to see if anyone else has any input.  Any thoughts on that middle single coil?
