Installed MMs in my Gibson Les Paul Custom...
« on: February 06, 2008, 10:58:45 PM »
...and they sound AMAZING! The bridge MM has a ceramic magnet and sounds really, really driven with a lot of mids and great for harmonics! The neck is really what i find incredible though - it has an alnico IV magnet and has a lot less gain (or drive?) than the bridge but it is unbelievably tight! On my previous pickups trying to play triplets on the low E string with the neck pickups would be a joke - the notes would all merge into 1 however with the MM in there i can hear every chug clearly! Same goes with the brige but i suppose that was expected
I'm still trying to figure the bridge out though because im not very good with keeping fast, palm muted riffs crystal clear with the bridge pickup as it has such a high output so any tips? Turn the gain down   ?

Anyway - i just want to say: thank you Tim - you have done an AMAZING job!

Really? Is this a custom order, or has Tim changed the specs? I remember from not so long ago that the MM neck was AV.

Glad you like them!

This is why i need a BK neck pickup, need that clarity for fast runs up and down the neck. Congrats with the miracle man, awsome pickups! sadly i need to sell mine to get some funds for other BK's, wish i didnt have to!

Fraid so, less gain, pick harder, and play as tight as possible!

Glad you're enjoying your BKs, you're hooked now though I'm afraid.

Haha thanks!

They're Nailbombs, but the bridge one is ceramic. They seem to have been getting quite a lot of attention from other metal-inclined BKers recently.. I've done a couple of clips with them in the Player's section if you're interested.
