I tried one of these today - really impressed. I A/B'd it with a dsl50 and of coourse there are similarities in the tone I thought the vintage modern was a good step forward (or should I say backwards) in tone.

Its not an easy amp to dial in but there is a sweet spot and when you hit it - its great. Brilliant cutting treble but meaty at the same time. Very jcm800 with more punch from the mid boost and loads more gain.

I'm getting one - don't know when but I am getting one

Good choice dude!

Yesterday in rehearsal I dialed back treble and dialed in Presence, which gave a "fatter" type trebly sound. Got compliments from my band mates and they just said "the sound was very ROCK" although I had the Master on 2PM!!

The 50W VM is not so loud, but just right :O)

Just checked the Bias on my VM2266, it was a bit low (40 ish) so I adjusted and on that occasion made some pics.

Slash's rig uses both his signature Jubilees and the VM.

Also, I think to recall that the two Jubilees he uses for cleans are modified to have different power amp tubes. In total I think i has 6 amps in his rig - 4 Jubilees and 2 VM.

So tell us hunter, you increased the bias, isn't that operation supposed to warm up and thicken the sound?

Cause we all found your VM quite trebly -while retaining some fatness of course- did the rebiasing tamed its treble?

Cheers!

Nope. Turning back presence and treble made it less trebly :O)

Yeah the VM is a bright amp, which is what I love about it. It really cuts through and gives that typical Marshall thing. Can be quite ugly on its own but is awesome in a band context.

I did dial it back a bit now though. So from "all settings noon" I am now more on Bass noon, Mid 2 o'clock, treble 11 o'clock, Presence between 9 and 10 AM.

Haha, yeah born out of pure need, as the KT66s with the bias rite adapters are too long. Otherwise I'd have the amp rest on its transformers.

I just thought that must be the way people do it
